I have been thinking about this for months now and I think I’m more confused now then ever. I’m trying to build an SPR like upper, It does not have to be a true to spec SPR. This is what I have so far, flat top upper receiver and YHM light weight 4 rail free float tube. My requirements for a barrel are as follows, no heavier than a HBAR and would like to keep it in the 18” to 22” range. I have look at barrels from the standard J & T HBAR to the WOA 18” SPR to the Krieger heaver barrels. One of my main concerns is how the 1:7 twist barrels are going to perform with 55 to 60 grn bullets because this is what I shoot the most of. I do have the access to reloading equipment if need be but I have a 16” M-4gery already with an ACOG TA-11 for my short to medium range. What I’m looking for is a longer range more precise rifle. I  plan on putting good optic (leupold Mark 4) on this beast. This rifle will be used for hunting (p-dog coyotes) and punching paper. My basic question is this, am I shooting my self in the foot with going with a standard HBAR, is the SPR barrel going to do what I want, is it worth spending the extra cash for the Krieger (will I be able to see a difference) ?  Now a couple other things to think about is….. Flip up front sight? ………Flash hider?

Thanks for you help in advance

If you are not looking for extreme accuarcy go with the hbar with a chrome lined barrel.  If you want excellent accuracy but do not want to spend a lot of money get the WOA 18 inch spr barrel.  It is a pound lighter than the hbar (IIRC)  and handles very well.  The 1/7 twist barrels will shoot the 55 grain FMJ very well as many members here will tell you.  If you already have the 16 inch set up I would just get the 18inch WOA SPR from ADCO with the matched bolt.  There are many different option for a front flip sight.  YHM, TROY, PRI plus others make one.  Depends if you want it mounted to the rail or a combo gas block/front sight.  You can go with any flash hider you like. Check out this thread for some ideas:

I'm leaning towards the WOA barrel heavly.
