I recently picked up a TA24-6 amber dot compact ACOG and it came with a mount that places the dot about halfway up my front sight assembly. When the MBUS is extended, the ACOG reticle is clearly too low with this particular mount.
I picked it up with the intent of trying it out to potentially replace an EOTech 512 on a flattop Armalite midlength with fixed front sight block. While I like the EOTech a great deal, I have heard great things about the ACOG as well and I figured it was worth checking out. At this point I have no desire to tear apart this rifle by removing the FSB to put on a gas block, though I may be convinced to put together a whole new rifle to take advantage of this sight if it's all that. Is there a mount out there that's designed to allow use of a compact ACOG on a flattop AR w/a fixed front sight block? Or, is there a mount that I could use on an A1 upper, so I could use this on a 9mm SBR? |

Most of them come with a MM07 mount that is .9 inches high, which I think is too short, so I put that on top of a 1/2 inch tall mini riser for 1.4 inches total. Some people use the MM09 mount which is about 1.6 inches high. That seems about right, as far as how much height I'd need. Do they make a 1/2" short riser that doesn't go the length of the flat top? Also, are there any other mount options out there that guys are using? |
| I just went through this very ordeal. I didn't find a single mounting solution that was acceptable (I didn't want to use a single, tall mount for it), so my ACOG is in a box waiting for my next build. The riser would work, but I thought it would look a little goofy/be an expensive way to fix the problem. |

I know someone else makes them now, but I don't know for sure, maybe YHM ? Mine are only 3 slots long (about 1 3/8 inches) and 1/2 inch tall. They were about $25 each. |

Also, are there any other mount options out there that guys are using? The one I have seen the most is using the MM01 mount, which converts it over to a carry handle mount. And then put it on a TA60 mount, which converts it back to a flattop mount . Which I tried and IMO adds way to much weight. Not sure but I think that Larue makes a mount that replaces the TA60 mount. My most recent find is a custom MM09 mount that someone had cut down to around 1.45 inches. If you want a pictures of what I use send me your email address. |

OK, I think I'm lost here - it's a carry handle mount then it's a flattop mount? Hmmm... is this sight more trouble than it's worth on a rifle with a standard front sight block? |

Quoted: Ah, got it, thanks for the pic. I saw in your other posts that you're swapping out your ACOG to the Aimpoint Micro, correct? Just to be sure in my caveman mind, this setup would allow me to use the Compact w/a front sight block? Thanks... I was going to switch, but I think I've decided against it. I like this setup alot. I use it on my BCM middy and it has the fixed FSB. Obviously, you're not going to be able to get a co-witness with the acog because of the magnification but the FSB isn't in the reticles way with this setup. |

Thank you VERY much for this bit of info, exactly why I love the tech forums on arfcom. I know I was using the term "cowitness" erroneously but I figured it would convey what I was trying to get at. |

Quoted: WhiteBuffalo, I also tried this approach, but decided against it since the mounts didn't line up to my satisfaction (only using half of each of the mounts). But given your positive feedback, I may have to reconsider this solution. That's a "drawback" that each will have to consider and evaluate on their own. The scope is held on with five screws, 4 in the MM01 mount and a large one holding the MM01 and the lt105 together. Everything is loctited down on my setup and it isn't budging without tools. BUT, it doesn't look all that great because of the mounts not lining up perfectly. It's all a matter of what is acceptable to you. I'm thinking about dremmeling off the unused portion of the MM01 (the part that extends to the front of the scope) to streamline it a bit. I've not had a problem with that portion of the mount getting snagged on gear, but it's a possibility in my mind at least.... I hadn't seen anyone do the mount configuration like I have, so I haven't had a chance to bounce ideas off of others who are doing the same.... |
