Are you truly a mount geek? Are you sure? Then prove it, by finding a solution for this, ah, purely hypothetical situation. Say a guy were to have an old Tasco scope with a built in weaver type rail on the bottom of the scope. This mounts to an ARMS carry handle rail (#2) with a couple of little clamps that hold the two rails together. Now one of these little clamps has gone AWOL. The money question for the true mount geek is, where can you get these clamps? They serve the effective purpose of clamping two wever/picatinny type rails together, back to back. |
Hypothetical subject is a thrifty sort who hates to throw anything away, even a 'POS' scope (it actually seems to shoot fine until the half ass clamps loosen up). If I could find a couple of cheap clamps I would store it in the safe as an emergency backup for the Nikon Scope and Leupold rings I just bought to replace it. |
I hear ya buddy I was just having some fun while I thought of an answer. I'd say scavange a part from something else (a cheap ring set) or see if you could use replacement parts from a detachable carry handle (not cheap). Got any pics? That would help. |

The problem now is trying to figure out who made the scope side of the mount and the clamps. It was not ARMS. Colt does not know, nor does Tasco. I bought the setup new in the early 90s and assumed it was a Colt marketed product. I already looked at trying to cut a set of rings apart to make my own clamps, but the base of the rings has a fixed side and a 'floater' side which only has about half of the seating surface. I would need to cut apart 2 sets of rings and drill out one side to seat the head of the allen screw. I would post a photo but do not have any photo hosting capability. |
No problem, there is free photo hosting at my website www.MD-AR15.com and at Fight4YourRight's website www.PA-AR15.com. You can sign up (it's free) and host photos there, or send them to me and I'll put them up [but do it quick as I'm going to be going off line in a few hours]. |
