Thinking of swaping my eothingy for some glass on my AR.  Gun is SS 16" match barrrel 1/8 twist w/FFhandguard frankenpuppy.  Looking to see the target at 2-400 yds.  I would like to put a good scope on it, probably later to go on a 6.5 grendel upper or other extavagant purchase.  Considering 2.5-10 or comparable range, don't want a huge scope on my rifle. Would like an ill. reticle.  Any thoughts? Looking at nightforce, leopold, S-B (in my dreams) and other quality optics.  Clue me to good source as well if possible.  Looks like the larue spr mounts are a good choice for mounting and easy on/off. Other mounting options?

I would check into the IOR 2x12-32 or the 1.5x8-26.  They are both compact for the AR and have an awsome range of magnification.  The IOR 2.5x10 is also great but it is 2 inches longer than the 2x12-32, but it comes in FFP or SFP.

I have a Nikon Tactical in 2.5-10X44 with illuminated Mildot reticle.  I think that fits your requirements.  The tube is 30mm and it is mounted with a one piece Armalaite scope mount.

It is the best piece of glass I have ever used, the clarity and resolution are outstanding.

SWFA is a good place to get optics.

IOR all the way.  Great glass, built solid as a tank.
