Ok, I have been working on putting together a 607 build since I was deployed last year.  I have most of the parts together, but being tempted to go for a 608 build.  Here is a pic of most of the parts I have (I am going to go with a slick side upper, but will not get the upper until the approved Form 1 comes back).  So do I keep going with the 607, or for a 608 style?

I still have to cut down the A1 handguards but wont do that until I get everything together.
(Even went with the retro towel for the pics and yes I intentionally picked it out for this)

The 607 stock is a work of art, but the simpleness of the 608 stock calls to me also.

if I go with the 608 style, I'll use the shorter buffer tube instead of a rifle lenth.  The rifle length just looks too long to me.

If I go with the 608 the problem I have is handguards, I can use a set of 6 hole CAR ones until I can find something more orginal looking. (still have to cut the lug off and switch out the handguard cap)

The cone flash hider looks pretty good, but either way will be going with this

while it is not retro, it is kind of in keeping with the spirit since I'll have a three-prong blackout flash hider on it

Eventually I'll get both, but will probably take me another year to get the $ saved up for all the parts and tax stamps.  So give me some guidane on which one to do first since I want to send the receiver off for anodizing next week.

Nice collection of parts! I say go with the 607, it's got a bit more WOW to it with the cut down collapsible 607 stock and cut down handguards.

Plus, you've got a lot more money tied up in 607 parts there than 608.

I vote for the 607.

607..The 608 really was not adopted and used as far as I know.Finish off the 607,then down the road do the 608. BTW,,the real correct accepted retroland answer to your question is simply,do BOTH..I'm surprised no one already replied with that.

as much as I dig the oddball models like the 608 (and 231, 656, 633 etc.) I'd say 607, unless you are going to construct the proper looking handguard for the 608.

Since you already have the expensive bits of a 607 (the stock and handguards/rear cap) go with the 607, and do a 608 later

Yah, do the 607.  That gives you some extra time to look for a 608 handguard.  I wouldn't doubt a repro will show up in the marketplace this year.

UncleMoak ,same member that makes the stock and cone, is working on the HGs,,don't know if he finished them yet,but he was working on them.

OK, I'll be the contrarian here.  Build the 608!
First, because even around here, it's the less-common variant. I see a fair number of folks here who own or are building 607's. Very few seem to have 608s.
Second (and maybe this is why so few people have them), the 608 is the ugliest AR variant in the history of AR variants and I have a personal affinity for beautiful women and ugly guns.
And third (someone correct me if I'm wrong), I'm guessing the 608 is a bit lighter than the 607 and I think light weight is a principal benefit of an SBR.

But as everyone here would agree, go with your gut. Build the rifle you want to build, get it to the range, get pics posted for us, and then get to work on the next one!

I agree..that's why I said 607 unless the proper style handguards are going to be done

I kinda like the 607, and the three-prong suppressor mount looks like a pretty elegant solution to bolting that on!

Go with both!  I like the idea of the AAC three-prong - I was thinking of going with one for a prototype for use with a can...

Will probably go with the 607 first, and hopefully by the time I have some more money available Unclemoak will have some hand guards done.  If not I have some ideas in my head and just need to draw up some spec and have someone turn something for me.

Now just have to drill the lower and setup the stock and then off to Victor for finishing.

I have almost all of the other parts I need.  The only thing I'm missing now is a earlier port door, I've got a later one to use until i find a more correct one.

I like the blackout flash hider alot more than their old ones.  Going to go with the blackout for all of my builds from now on.
