I went into T.A.G in Jacksonville yesterday and went to buy a receiver since everyone else in town was out.

Low and behold they had two DPMS and two Rock River Arms for $155. When I went to get the paperwork done

I forgot I needed proof of residence so I ran home to get that and to pick up my girlfriend from work.

When I finally got back to T.A.G the guy I had talked to greeted me at the door and told me they had received

a letter (He didn't say who) that said you had to be 21 to buy a stripped Rifle receiver. So I went home

and checked on the ATF website, NRA website and a half of dozen legal websites (including NC State Legislature)

absolutely nothing. So I headed down to another gun shop to talk to the guy and he said he had heard nothing

about that.
So the question is has anyone heard anything?
There are two legitimate reasons otherwise:
A. It was a company policy that changed (He said I needed to be 21,

nothing about a pistol permit for which NC State would require).
B. I live in a very military town with T.A.G being pretty much all retired military.

Now I am very out of the fold (long hair, band tees, holey pants, etc.) and they

just didn't want to do business with me.
I just want to make sure that if I pick one up else where I'm not doing anything illegal.

No he is correct, there has been a new addition to the 4473 (the form you fill out when purchasing a firearm). There is now a spot for stripped virgin recievers. Since a virgin can be made into a pistol or a long gun, you must now be 21 to purchase. Not all stores are using the new forms yet. About the only thing you can do is get a lower with a stock already on it so it is a rifle.

Ouch I can't believe something like that could slip by me.

Thanks though I'll see if anyone around town has any complete lowers.

Just to clarify, you said not all stores are using it yet. When does it become effective?

The reason that I say this is the gun shop I went to afterward didn't have it.

Are they selling illegal receivers? Or is it OK to buy from them?
