I'm working on a 16" barrel AR 15 in .223 (AERO receiver set, mid length Faxon barrel), mainly for range and HD and would love some parts suggestions for:

- rail, needs to be 15" long, no carbon fiber or poly, as light and affordable as possible, something like a magnesium keymod for way under $200 lol

- lower and upper parts kit (no trigger or grip) in good quality but not with a V7 price tag

- BCG, reliable but still on the light side, no $400 set

- matching buffer and spring

I have a couple tricked out ARs but this build is supposed to be a reliable, still lightweight, quality beater for around $1200 all together (not including sights).

You want what you want....but are you sure you want a 15" rail on a 16" mid length system?
Odin Works makes a lite 12.5" kmod and mlok at 10oz for $175 and a 15.5" at 11.5 oz for $190

14.5" KAC urx4 m-lok can be had for around $250.  That wold be my first pick.

Faxon Streamline 15" for around $150

Guntec 15 for $90

Id probably get the rest of the stuff at PSA or Damage Industries.  I think AIM surplus has a low cost lightweight bcg.

For nice and simple rail with an easy to install barrel nut I have to say ALG Defense rails. See which version works for you and get it. Nice and light and ALG is owned by Giessele Defense yet half the price.

I went with the UTG Pro 15" Superslim M-Lok. Price point was where I wanted ($125 ish) and very easy to install. Very happy with the quality. I can't find a single issue with it at all.

PSA has there BCGs on sale all the time. Seems everyone has good luck with them.

If I build another, I'll get a full LPK. Doesn't hurt to have a spare FCG at the ready if needed.

I used the Anderson vitals kits for my last 3 builds. No grip and no FCG. They were like $25 from Anderson.

The AIM BCGs are excellent. I have 4 of the Nitrided ones and a couple phosphate. Thousands of rounds down range with zero issues. I had an Rguns BCG give me truble ejecting after a few thousand rounds. The pin the holds the ejector broke. I replaced the pin and put the BCG in my spares box.

I have used 6 of the Anderson receiver extension, buffer and spring kits. They are made from 7075 and fit nicely. Usually the price is right on them.

Not sure why you want a 15" rail on a 16" barrel but Midwest Industries makes some lightweight rails at a pretty good price.

+1 on Midwest Industries. got 3 of them on various rifles, and no problems whatsoever with them. the G3 rails are light as hell, but a little small for my hands.

I plan to use Aero upper and lower with 16" Faxon mid length gunner barrel. I like the looks of the POF 14.5" Renegade Mlock rail, it is just 8.8oz but has a 4oz heat sink barrel nut which helps keep the rail cool to the touch. I found it for $180 but don't have my part list with me. It has an option for a window as well if you want easier access to the gas block. I'm building a piston gun so plan to buy the Superlative Arms kit.

Thank you so much for all the suggestions. There are several brands I haven’t discovered yet. A M-Lok G3 from Midwest Industries is on top of my list right now. The ALG EMR V3 rail looks great but at 15oz too heavy.

Btw: I prefer a full length guard for several reasons:

- the further out the front sight is, the more accurate the setup will be

- keep options open for “out of way” accessories like a light and / or laser

- enough room for a bipod and forward grip

While I won’t hang all this stuff on this gun, I do want the option, especially for a carbon fiber bipod all the way in the front.

That Anderson vitals kits is also a great suggestion. Will order today.

Fwiw v2 is 10.6 oz. still has M -lok option on top rail if needed. Absolutely no complaints about the MI rail though. Just sharing info
