OK. Got my M4 flat top upper and to mount my scope I want a good but not too pricey one piece mount or two piece mount. I'm putting a, please do not make fun of me...Leupold 2-7X28 Rim Fire Compact on it because its what I have, its paid for and its good glass.
Quick detach would be nice but not necessary. Looking at the cheaper BLK mounts, Weaver Tactical Rings and so forth. NcStar has a one piece with throw lever for $35.00 |
| Try a Burris AR-PEPR mount. It is one piece and reasonably priced. If you want QD, they are $100, and if you don't need QD, they are around $79. Make sure you get the right size for the diameter of your scope. Your scope may be a 1" or 30mm scope depending on the model. |
|
I have LaRue mounts for all my optics, but for him, it isn't worth spending that kind of money $200+ for a mount when his scope is for a .22. I highly doubt anyone will abuse their gun enough to see the differences between a Burris mount and a LaRue when just plinking away at a range. If this was for law enforcement work or military, than that is a whole other story.

LaRue. Buy once, cry once. Never look back. |

It is a 1 inch tube. I'm not spending $200.00 on a mount. Looking for the $50.00-$100.00+ range. Yeah Not gonna get enough use to justify high dollar mount. PEPR Look here There' a lever QD version for $20 more. Some of these ship with an extra set of smooth rings.....ask. |

| I bought the RRA cantilever mount (AR0130T) for my bench gun and it works great. Here is the link: RRA mount |

This is in the top running and then the Burris because I might try to run a flip up MaTech sight on the back if room. |

Keep in mind that most of these one-piece AR mounts allow the optic to sit directly above the BUIS. The BUIS doesn't have to be uncovered by the optic. Optic - BUIS Clearances Be mindful of your scope's eye relief and where your preferred cheek weld is. This is key is selecting the correct mount for you and your optic. |

The RRA mounts the scope a touch to high for my hard cheek weld probably great for some shooters only a few around here have the DNZ's. there a bit more popular with the hunt'n crowd's on other boards who mount a scope and keep it there.. |

Stay away from ALL NCStar products. They are not even suitable for airsoft, BB guns or paint ball guns.
Check out the Vortex Optics Cantilever Mount. That is one nice looking mount.

Yes that IS nice. Thanks for the heads up on NcStar stuff. I guess you should only go so cheap. I am switching the barrel, forward assist and port cover over to new flat top upper today. Choosing a mount is next. Which ever mount you go with, I'm sure you'll appreciate having a cantilever mount. Cantilever mounts allow you to mount your scope in a more forward position therefore giving you proper eye relief. I used to have standard rings and the ergonomics drove me nuts with regard to improper eye relief. I switched the rings out for some cheapo mount. I could tell it was crap, but it did help with the eye relief. I then switched it out for a LaRue mount and I was hooked for life! Good quality mounts have generous ring spacing (which supports the scope properly), a longer base (that attaches to the rail) and are absolutely rock solid (no flex). If you compare some of the inexpensive mounts you'll see that most of them have close ring spacing, a short base attaching to the rail and are likely not designed to be rock solid. That cheapo mount I was talking about earlier ... I could push on the objective lens of my scope and see that either the mount and/or the scope was flexing. Likey due to lack of proper ring spacing for a solid hold on the scope (allowing the scope to flex) and/or the mount itself was flexing. Believe it or not, but there truly is a reason why these mounts cost what they do. I've come to accept it and have embraced quality when it comes to firearms. I've seen soooooo many cheapo optics fall apart, cheapo lasers lose zero, cheapo mounts not do what you expect them to, etc . . . That's what "buy once cry once" means. You will not regret buying a decent mount. Save up and you WILL be happy in the end. |

Thank you to all...I just ordered the Primary Arms mount. I'm sure it will get the job done and if it doesn't I'll go another route.
Yes you get what you pay for but just trying to be realistic in how and how much I will use this. Between this mount and the very generous eye relief on the Leupold surely I can be happy. Will post up when I get it set up and hopefully it might help someone else as well. |

Those new Vortex mounts look great. I could'nt find a 1 inch model though? only 30mm? |

upper installed
Here is near finished product. Threw the Sight Mark and MaTech sight on there till mount gets here for Leupold Scope. I do want to say that again the fit & finish of this upper was top shelf. Tolerances were perfect IMO. When I closed the top to lower receiver it was tight. Very slight dehorn of rear sharp edges on tang and she closed, pin went in and she was snug. Wonderfully good product. |

I got my Leupold IMS 2 today and I really like it. Haven't tested it shooting yet to see about return to zero, but it's solid, easy to install and was 86 bucks delivered. I've got a Leupold scope and I've heard horror stories about the PEPR from a quality standpoint. I figure Leupold probably knows how to build a mount to work well with a Leupold scope. We'll see. |

OK the Primary Arms mount is in and ON the rifle. Pics coming. I believe it will work great as all the way back eye relief is just right. Need to sight in and see how accurate this RRA rifle is. I also go the rail top cap for the front. Most likely use a Doctor Optic sight there. Love it so far!!
