Hope you've got a thick skin.

Nothing wrong with saving money, I agree about Taurus revolvers.  I prefer to catch good deals on slightly used name brand items.  You can get a good "anybrand" gun, the problem with them is consistency, like 3 or 4 bad out of 10 produced.

I just bought a "quality name" rifle, not an AR, over a "lesser" quality of the same type and spent an extra $200 to do so only to find it was manufactured by a different "lesser" company for the "quality name" company when I got it in my hands and could read all the markings.  Something inside it broke the first night I had it while I was cycling the action, so back to the factory it goes and we'll see if the "quality name" companies' customer service is as good as the original "lesser" named one is.  (Beretta vs. Taurus)

Well, one thing about the AR weapons system is that if you should encounter a problem it can be fixed. And this place is an incredible resource for people that know this system inside and out. I think you'll be fine.

My experience with Century is: As long as we buy the crap they put out, they will continue to put out crap. Yes I've got two Century builds and had problems with both.

Quoted:
And when I say "cheap", I mean inexpensive.

I have a small collection of weapons, both handguns and long guns. To give examples of my reference;

For handguns, I like Taurus. IMO they make some very high quality stuff for the price.

For shotguns, I like Mossberg. Simple and effective, lots of aftermarket support.

Marlin and Remington for small and large game.

And my introduction to combat replicas came in the form of a Century WASR AK-47. Can't argue with reliability despite *some* accuracy shortcomings. But that's an AK.

I recently aquired my first AR, a Century. Yea, I know. I read all the reports. In fact, that is what lead me to purchase this weapon. Weeding through all the negative press, I discovered that Century basically assembles these weapons (AR's) using some well regarded, major manufacturer parts, including stamping their name on a lower made for them.

I know I am in the minority here, but I would like to hear opinions from all and maybe tips to other quality weapons for small coin.

In my experiences, most "gun" people people start with shotguns and/or "fudd" guns, then evolve into Black Rifles as they look to try new things.

Your experience is not uncommon, just remember to leave the door open (figuratively speaking) to eventually trading or paying up for more quality firearms/firearm accessories in the future.

i paid $850 NIB for a Colt MT6400C
i paid $400 LNIB for a Kimber Custom Stainless
i paid $99 NIB for a Mossberg 500 w/ Slug Barrel & Bushnell 3-9x

I can't stand Taurus... my friend owned a PT140... it was a total POS... you couldn't fire a mag without a failure of some kind... the gun shot patterns not groups...

what really turned me off to Taurus was when i found out they were supporting my college with smartgun research...
