I am new to this forum. I am also new to varmit hunting. I am wanting to purchase a AR-15 for this purpose as well as getting both my boys 12 & 9 years old into the father son thang. I've tried to do some research and yet porbably more confused on which AR to buy. { info over load}

I am thinking Bushmaster 16 to 18" barrel. Do't want to break the back on gun / scope. Any info would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Well you could build from scratch and save some cash, plus have some real good times with the boys. It isnt really hard, and I am sure others will show ya the best deals out there on stripped lowers.

It would be cheaper to buy a complete lower and upper seperate and slap them together, that way you don't have to pay the extra 11% that complete rifles have. Are you planning on just running optics or do you want to have the option to do both? Right now the best deal going on a complete lower is from DSA- $200+shipping and transfer fee charged by your local dealer(around $20-$30), they also have a 16" midlength upper for $300, then you could add a BCM bolt carrier group for $139.95 and a BCM charging handle for $22.95+shipping. With shipping and the transfer fee you should be at $750 or a little less, but expect to wait 2 or 3 weeks for the stuff from DSA. Another choice would be a CMMG bargin bin rifle if they still have them. Or you could get the DSA lower for $200 and a complete 16" midlength  upper from del ton for 440, so you'd have $640 + about $40 shipping + say $30 for transfer fee= $710. Any of these choices would get you a decent rifle for casual shooting.  Bushmaster also is a good choice, along with Stag. There is a Bushmaster 20" A2 model for sale on the EE for like $725 shipped , but that doesn't have a flat top upper, which I think you'd be happier with if you plan on running a scope.You'd also need to figure in a scope and maybe a rear iron if you choose.
