I tried doing a search and couldn't find anything in the past 30 days on this but I do apologize if this has been covered already.
The problem I am having is that so far out of the 600 rounds, I have had 3-4 double feeds and they have only happened when I just loaded a full 30 round mag and fired one shot. The first shot goes off fine but than I got the double feed. This has happened about 3-4 times. It seems if I put less than 30 in the mag I don't have that problem. Is this something that is common with any magazines? I don't mind putting in 26 or 28 rounds instead of 30 if it offers more reliability. This is with a brand new Bushmaster which is my first AR. I shot it over the past three days and I cleaned it after 100 rounds the first day and then just after the day was over each time after that. Anyway about my question, I am using TAPCO Poly 30 Round Mags. Since I live in NY I couldn't find any PMAGS and the place I bought the gun from only had TAPCO. Is this a TAPCO problem or general problem? Thanks in advance. |
| The store just had them. And to be honest since this is my first rifle / first AR-15 I am new to all of this and didn't even know about the whole pre ban mags / 10 round limit or anything like that. I just said I wanted extra magazines and he showed me a whole bunch and the TAPCO 30 round polys looked the best to me and were only $20. Why are they not suppossed to be sold in NY? So far all the guys at the ranges all had 30 round mags and most of them looked new |

If you're able to buy Tapco mags, you're also able to buy a variety of other new magazines to try out in your rifle, like Tangodown, Magpul, Lancer, or current production USGI-type aluminum. The answer in that case would be to trash the Tapco and try something else. Or you could try returing it to Tapco. Otherwise check the mag for any obvious flaws, like excess plastic flashing inside the tube and around the feed lips. Try leaving it fully loaded for a week. Or it might just self-correct after being used (although you already said it's still occurring at 600rds) |

| Thanks all for your suggestions. I am not one of those people (who I assume must be in law enforcement) who can legally purchase new 30 Rnd mags. I guess the store owner I bought it from didn't care too much about legality and me be a newbie did not question. This weekend I am going to take the advice and look for some pre ban USGI 30 rounders and see how they work and replace springs/parts if necessary. I do love the looks of the newer all black Poly mags like the 30 rnd Tapco's I bought but I guess I am better off being on the safe side living in NY. It does drive me nuts though to think I can go out and buy a perfectly working 30 round mag if it was made before 94' but I can't buy the same exact mag if it was made after. It would be one thing if they were hard to come by but I see them everywhere. |
| 44MAG.com sells magazine rebuild kits for ban states if you happen to find some pre-ban mags that are in need of repair. |

How so??? those of us that are not LEO, any mag that is not made before 09/1994 is an illegal high capacity magazine. the only new magazines that can be purchased in new york state are 10 rounds or less. as for certain people purchasing things that others cant, if you are LEO you can buy whatever you desire, depending on department regulations, and still be in compliance with NYS law. |

OP- Send me an IM. I have some old Orlites that are preban that are just collecting dust in my range bag. I will try them out at the range tomorrow. If you want them just give me a couple bucks each for them and I will send them to you. I think I have 5. They aren't pretty or high quality, but they work.
