so I'm looking into building my own ar, mostly for range fun, some hunting, and home def, really liek the looks of teh S&W M&P 15T but would rather build my own. here are my questions for you AR junkies:
lowers- SDI and bushmaster are the two that I'm debating between right now, cant decide which one i like better and they both are the same price stripped. lower internals? does the manufacturer really make any difference? who's good? stick with BM parts if I get a BM lower? upper? dont really care as long as its 5.56 with flat top and no iron sites. the whole m4 cuts thing, is it important? |

Are both mil-spec? If so, go with the roll mark that you like best. lower internals? does the manufacturer really make any difference? who's good? stick with BM parts if I get a BM lower? The word around here is go with CMT, but Im sure someone will know if BM gets its parts from CMT. upper? dont really care as long as its 5.56 with flat top and no iron sites. the whole m4 cuts thing, is it important? BCM. |

found my own answer on that first one, bushmaster is commercial spec, and sabre is:
"Sabre Defence semi-auto AR15 stripped forged lower receiver. Lower is mil spec and uses standard take-down and fire control pins. Receiver is mil-spec hard coat anodized aircraft grade 7075 T6 aluminum. Sabre Defence is ISO 9001−2000 Registered and Certified. All quality systems are approved by the US Government." and the price i found on a sabre says i should jump on it, 135 for a stripped lower |
| I'm not sure if CMT supplies Stag or not. One thing I can tell you is as far as stocks go, Bushmaster does NOT us mil-spec parts. I like Bushy's stuff though. I have a coupl of rifles and a couple more uppers and LPKs...good stuff. I think the stock is the only major non-mil-spec part. |

Which hasn't stopped me from buying three of them. |

I have limited building experience but yes I have noticed some differences with lower parts kits. As an example, my RRA kits have included a metal triggerguard. My Bushmaster (factory) rifles feature a plastic triggerguard. Does this make a huge difference? Probably not. But it seems like there are subtle differences between the various LPK makers. |
| well so far i have narrowed my lower down to a sabre and the LPK is going to either be LMT or CMT, just can't seem to find any in stock right now. question about buffer tubes and springs tho, umm, wtf am i looking for? i'm seeing options like H1 H2, all i know is the sabre DOES HAVE a mil spec receiver. |
