So my lower and upper are a bit loose I get some side to side movement.  Accuracy is fine, but it is something that bothers me.   I have it shimmed to tension it so there is less movement.

There has to be a better way.   I was thinking of drilling and tapping two small set screws which can be raised/lowered and created a rest for the upper to sit on the lower.   The points I thought to use are here shown in the photo.

Anyone done this before?

Would it compromise the lower?

I'd try an accuwedge before I went to drilling into my lower. $5 investment

put a o ring on the front of your upper where it attaches to your lower

Any of these methods, or a combination thereof, will work:

The fact that the lower and upper have some play won't affect accuracy. Accuracy is achieved by the upper only, Millions of military M16's and AR's have the same play and work just fine. If you want to get rid of the wobble I would get the accuwedge instead of modifying the lower at all.

I agree with cgrifleman; in the military I many m4 a4 etc had a lot of upper to lower wiggle in them, seemed like some i probably could have put a quarter in between the upper and lower but they were still accurate.

First time I tried an accuwedge (sp) I went between 4 different AR's I had to shave the thing down to where it was basically just thicker than a finger nail. No fucking way the entire thing would work it would have taken a press to get the upper down.

I do like someone said and just put a o ring on it and it works fine...Also take the accuwedge and cut like 6 slivers off of perfect circles and you will have enough for a bunch of builds.

Try this.. The idea seems good!

Yes,

I agree with everyone in not modifying your lower...or upper for that matter...

The wiggle doesn't bothe me...I'm used to it...

As for fixes...I have accuwedges...I think I bought like 20 or so...still have plenty left...

And the wiggle will not effect accuracy at all...your optic or sights are on the upper...with the bbl...so not an issue...

As for what choice...I'd just throw in a wedge...inexpensive...easily removed or modified...

I haven tried those pins...but they look interesting...but may make it hard to break down the rifle as well...

I used a set of Armalite NM takedown and pivot pins to take the last bit of slop in my previous build.

Right now I have some cabinet anti-slip mat acting as accuwedge.

It does help wobble, but I don't like how it tensions the rear pin.  I think I will try the front O-ring aswell.

I appreciate the comments.
