I have always been a devout mini 14 owner, recently I purchased a Bushamster XM-15 E2s. Wow!!!!what a rifle. I have been hunting for accessories. Unfortunately, it seems that i have purchased a post-ban rifle and it is against the law to mount  flash supressor onto it. I was wondering if anyone could reccommend a nice looking muzzle brake, or something of a similiar nature to enhance my new rifle. By the way, although I have taken a great deal of bashing form my Mini 14 owning friends, I am more than happy with this rifle. i was able to make my final choice with the great information and resounding praise that came from all over this BB. This is an excellent community with many knowledgeable people.

Bashing from Mini-14 owners??? Now that you've moved into the big leagues, just look at them and smirk... and if that doesn't work you could always remind them of Bill Ruger and his anti-RKBA stances and ask them why THEY don't own a real rifle instead of supporting the father of the magazine ban, the Traitor Bill and his company...

Kurt at KKF is the first best choice for post-ban legal muzzle brakes... You can find him here on ARFcom in the Industry section or check out his website here:

Kurt's brakes are the best I've shot and look great... Some pix of 2 of my AR's, a Bushmaster and an ArmaLite Kurt recently reprofiled and added A3 brakes...

Welcome to the club bro.  I would take an AR-15 over a Mini 14 any day of the week, no questions asked.  If you haven't noticed, our military uses M16's and M4's (military version AR-15's).  They don't use sissyfied Mini 14's.  About your new Bushmaster, you will love it.  That was my first AR also.  You could put a tactical buttstock on the back to make it look "cooler" but it must be a fixed buttstock (not collapsable) since it is a postban.  As far as a muzzle brake, I have a mini Y-comp muzzle brake on my postban Bushmaster.  It helps but it is louder than without one.  Also, if I were you I'd eventually put an M4A3 upper receiver on which is also sold through Bushmaster.  Again, the possibilites with an AR-15 are endless.  Good luck bro.

Welcome to the 'Black Rifle Club'!

I too came from Mini-14 to AR, and I don't miss my Mini.

There are things I like about the Mini to be sure - because I had them, on & off for years.

Here's what I got tired of;
(1) Crude sights on the standard model, and the little flip-up sight on the ranch rifle is a joke.

(2) Accuracy. Some are better than others, but I doubt if the average Mini will break 3 m.o.a.

(3) Magazines. The only magazines I completely trust are the factory magazines, and the factory 20-rounders are $90.00 - $150.00 each.

What do I like about the Mini?

(1) It looks right. There's something about the classic Garand style that appeals to the eye.

(2) Rugged reliability. With good magazines, it'll go, and go, and go, with little or no maintenance. Especially the Stainless version.

(3) Easy to operate.

(4) Price - I see them for $449.00 once-in-a-while.

Would I ever trade off my AR15 for one? HELL NO! My AR shoots like a varmint rifle, can utilize inexpensive USGI magazines, and is overall a much better rifle!

"What kind of turn around time have you experienced from them?"

Before you send anything to Kurt, buy a second upper because you will be without the one you sent to him for a long time. I sort of forgot I sent him one. When I sent it, I was fine but over the years Alzheimers set in. It was a Bushmaster 16" shorty that I had him put a muzzle brake on. Actually I asked him to trim the barrel back so when it is done, it will be just over the 16" limit.

When I get that one back, I am going to send him another one. My Bushmaster M4 to get the mini-y comp taken off and a more authentic looking brake installed.  I hope they arn't outlawed by the time I get it back. I have a thrid one that I was thinking about sending him, my 20" bare barrel. It should be a curio & relic when I get it back.

The turn around time on the two rifles I posted the images of was 10 weeks for the ArmaLite and 8 weeks for the Bushy...

In both cases Kurt cut the barrels to 14 1/2", reprofiled the barrels to a lightweight configuration and installed A3 TacBrakes.  My understanding is a brake install has a quicker return time...

No matter what, Kurt's work is well worth the wait... [;)]

Thank You all so much for the great information. I am really enjoying my new Bushmaster. Having been in the active duty military during Desert Storm I am very familiar with the weapon. I am very appreciative for all the good info......

Kurt is just one guy, and there are 30,000 or so members just on AR15.com.  We keep him quite busy with work, and he operates, more or less, on a "first in, first out" basis.

But he has a lot of experience with the AR platform (he even built a lower from an old steel trailer hitch and a few other components!), and has done a lot of totally custom work for us.  It's worth the wait once you get the final product.
