| Just bought a slightly used colt and wonder if it is in its original confoguration. Lower is marked Sporter Target model. Has 20 bbl with flash supressor in A2 configuration. bbl is 1/7, no bayonet lug. Does this sound right for original? Is there a link someone could direct me to to find out the age of the lower/model number? Thanks for your help! |

Your description seems like my former Colt model R6551 which I got in '91, the rollmark was "Sporter Target". Mine had mag release button fence, no sear block and blue label box. Does yours have a large pivot pin, mag release button fence or sear block in the lower receiver? Ref: BiggerHammer.net Colt Commercial Variants webpage link |

That matches the description of the rifle i bought Alpha. I paid 800.00. Did not come with box but has a colt 20rnd mag and 3 30rnd usgi mags with. Does that seem like a fair price? The gun is in excellent condition showing only very minimal wear to the bolt, charging handle surfaces. ETA: Thanks for the Link! |
In my opinion you did fine, new in box R6551 are usually going for $1,100 to $1,200 and excellent condition usually in the high $900 range. I'm a long time Colt owner since my first former '71 SP-1 and I used to have six different Colt rifles/ carbines. Now I still have two Colts, a Match Target HBAR lower with a Colt M16A2 upper and a LE6721 tactical carbine with a middy barrel. Just clean and lube before and between use and you should have no problems with it, I never had any problems with my former and current Colts. Good luck. |
Sounds to me you did really well. Just sold a post-ban colt for $850 and the guy thought he got a steal. So you really done well IMO. I would have bought it at that price. |
