So I bought a 511 and used it out in the desert this weekend...  I noticed I have to wear my glasses with it or the outer ring turns into a mess of dots(my Aimpoint does NOT do this).     I'm not sure if i'm totally dissapointed though as it seems to be pretty fast on target for stuff up close.    I was still MUCH faster with my Aimpoint.     The outer ring seems to get in the way a bit.   I wish you could turn the outer ring On/Off and leave the center 1moa dot on.    That would be a great feature.     I'll give the EOtech another whirl before my mind is made up though.    The main thing that pissed me off was having to wear glasses to make the reticle usable.

Hakko makes a sight that has a few different reticles you can switch around. Looked cool to me.

Several questions for ya. Are you near sighted? Did you shoot with both eyes open? Where you shooting at a target more than 30yds away? Did you have the power setting turned down to where the reticle was just visable? EOTech does make models with JUST a 1 MOA center dot!

My crap vision makes everything blury....  from close up to far away..  without my glasses there is a slight haze over everything.    I can still see without my glasses but i can't focus on extreme detail without getting a bad headache.

Both eyes were open.   my targets were from 25m out to 100 or so.     Had I known about the 1moa dot model I probably would have bought it.

EOTech's don't work well for people with bad vision problems...

I don't have "bad"  vision but after shooting about a mag or two with irons my eyes got really strained and my sights would go blurry. Maybe I'm in need of glasses, but since I got the EOTech I don't have this problem. I think shooting the EOTech with both eyes open releaved the stress I was putting on my right eye while shooting with irons.

ya... i'm thinking I wasted 300 bucks : (

I will give it a try again but knowing it won't work well for me unless I have my glasses on pretty much kills it.      My Aimpoint works great with or without glasses.

The Holosight/Eotech reticles appear kinda blurry to me...but it's better WITH my glasses...people with any sort of astigmatism, like me, seem to do better with glasses on.

Having said that, I got used to the reticle w/o too much trouble, and I really don't have a problem with it now.  Try it for a while, and see if it grows on you...you can always sell it on the EE...those things usually go quick.

The ring is intended for Man-size targets 25M and CLOSER.

IMHO at the ranges you mentioned the Aimpoint will be quicker (as its easier to pick up the larger dot and put it on targer).  However, for CQB work (inside 25M), I find the ring to be much quicker to use.

I looked at the Eotech one dot model, I believe it is the 501. The thing that turned me off about it was that it does not have the sealed, waterproof electronics (according to Eotechs own specs).

I am nearsighted (myopia) and have to wear contacts or glasses. I fired at the range with a friends eotech and found that the fuzziness (with my vision) was distracting. I just went out and bought an Aimpoint ML2 and find I can fine tune the brightness to suit me better.

I think it all depends on the vision characteristics of the individual. I'm just glad there are several good options.

EOTech uses laser projection that form the circle and dot, the reason you see blur on the ring is because it is multiple points and the center dot is just one.  If Aimpoint made a circle, you will see blur also.  this is just the way of the electronics.  AlthouhgAimpoint can't form a circle without loosing the parallex, but that is another story.

As far as shooting with your glasses on, i usually just wear contact.  it is always good to have the correct vision.

The 65MOA circle is very very fast up close and i have good luck with them out to 25m but i hace seen users take fast snap shot out to 50m with the circle.

_DR,

EOTech maks a 511 police model that is water proofed and sealed in the 1MOA, it is called the 511.D1.
