Save money where you can save it.  A sub par lower is not a place to save.  There are many good deals on lowers right now.  Lauer Custom Weaponry has lowers right now for $85.  Heck of a deal, if you ask me.  Also, many vendors on here regularly have good quality lowers for around $100 shipped.

$85 is a very good price indeed for an LMT lower.

I just picked up a DPMS at the local funshow for $99. My last RRA I bought was $130.

Spending an extra $30-40 on a high quality lower is a good choice. You can cheap out on other parts that you can replace as you go along. Don't cheap out on the lower.

Olympic Arms suffers from a history of substandard quality. I don't know what they are doing right now... but I have not heard any widespread news of happy customers. I'm sure they are out there, but from the volume posts from  DIS satisfied customers, I would recommend that you do not purchase their products.

One of these posts was by a dealer! He stated that their customer service was virtually nonexistent, that he'd picked up the tab for several customers who had unservicable rifles. THAT post alone was enough for me to put them on my personal "Do Not Patronize" list.

'Nuff said. There are better manufacturers out there.

Welcome,

"Saving money" is not spending it twice.

RRA, Stag, DoubleStar ...... all very reliable for only a few dollars more. Maybe for the same money if you search hard enough.

Good luck.....let us know what you end up with.

If trying to save money but get a good lower I would look at CMMG and Eagle Arms (Eagle Arms is what Armalite brands thier lowers if not sold as a complete rifle)

Get a good lower. As for the upper, try LAR manufacturing for their reject uppers.

They sell all the uppers that have cosmetic flaws for a good price. I have purchased 3 so far and built on 2 of them(need to get me a barrel for my 3rd).

Only flaws I could find was paint finish flaws. Cost per upper? 35 bucks each but the price does very during the year to as high as 49 bucks.

Olympic lowers can be good or bad but the real problem is Olympics service its horrible. I have been waiting on a call back for six months after three or four phone calls I finally have given up.

+1 on bad Oly service, bought a barrel wrench from them online.

I called a few weeks later to see where it was, and was told they were out.

I received no email about being out of stock, no phone call, no price break, and no apology, guess I would have waited indefinately if I hadn't called and asked.

Told them to cancel the order and a local shop put my barrel on for me for free (nice).

2 months later I got the wrench, and yes I was still charged.

And that was just a wrench, never will I buy a weapon from them (or anything else for that matter).
