Hey Guys,
I finally registered for the site, after lurking for a while. I thought I'd introduce myself here because the Retro Forum is where I spend most of my time while here. I've been interested in building a M16A1 clone for a while now. I even picked up some old 20 round magazines at a local pawn shop last year. Well, a few weeks ago, after seeing the video of Mike from NDS, I took the plunge and put an upper and lower on backorder. Now to begin collecting the other parts while I wait for my upper and lower. Welcome to the disease known as RBRD, it's uncurable and costs a lot for treatment, especially if you have a real bad case and need Early experimental treatments/parts. Which model do you want to build first? Most of us started with M16A1's, but I'm a fan of Navy and Airforce builds, because they are slick sides. So after my first M16A1(603) build I started a late 604, then a very early 604, 605 carbine, 602, and my last build is/will be a XM177E2 Airforce slickside Carbine. I'd build more but I can't legally buy anymore NDS AR15 lowers. I'm gonna be building on a few NDS 10/22 receivers to continue giving them my business.
ETA: Make sure you get to know Boywonder777, you will be needing parts from him. Look at his freaking feedback score! 1100-0-0, his Gunbroker Feedback Score is almost the same 1021-0-1, thats so freaking impressive. High Powered Armory has like 1200-38-60 feedback on GB and they somehow maintain an A+ grade, IMO they are a joke and should be booted from GB. Just think how many positives you lost when they changed the old feedback system to the current system and the transactions we all sell through Email/IM. Are you still the top feedback holder on Arfcom LL or is it Tenewel? |

Seems like forever ago I was that guy you describe. Thinking back. it's been less than six months.
*DISCLAMER* * If you're not careful - or if you're the addictive type, ahem...excuse me - you can get sucked into this thing very deep. * But, this is the coolest part of gun collecting, for me, right now. I relish a few moments in the day when I can scan my favorite sites for parts...and find something cool I need. Christmas in August when it comes. Learning to be almost as picky as the rest of these addicts...er, I mean enthusiasts on this site. We both came late to the party - but it's still doable. Party on OKC Jim! |

Are you still the top feedback holder on Arfcom LL or is it Tenewel? not sure. i'm pretty sure at least 80% of that feedback is retro related. just glad to be able to find and share parts with you guys. honestly if it wasn't for retro, i would have been done with ARs years ago. |

Thanks for the warm welcome guys.

Welcome to the disease known as RBRD, it's uncurable and costs a lot for treatment, especially if you have a real bad case and need Early experimental treatments/parts. Thanks for the welcome to the disease. I know better than to say this will be my only one. My plan is to start with a standard A1 and then maybe branch out into something shorter. I also suffer from Garanditis and Milsurpitis so I'm familiar with similar afflictions. Quoted: *DISCLAMER* * If you're not careful - or if you're the addictive type, ahem...excuse me - you can get sucked into this thing very deep. * Perhaps I should tell the story of the magazines I mentioned above. I wandered into the store and found these old looking 20 round mags. I wasn't sure exactly what they were but I generally prefer 20 rounders and I was pretty sure they were USGI. I purchased, for $6 each, one of each manufacturer, Colt, Adventure Line, and Universal. The next day, unable to control myself, I went back and purchased all they had left. Does that make me the "addictive type"? Fortunately for me they only had 12.

Welcome to the show. You will find a vast array of knowledge, information, and expertise here. You will also encounter a vast resource that will help to make finding parts for your retro builds a bit easier. A few guys here have custom services that are available. As others have said, RBRD can be very contagious. To those of us that respect the vintage AR platform, it is just a dedication and a passion. Please make yourself at home and we look forward to seeing more retros in the future.
