Hey what's up, I'm fairly new to the forum, recently registered although I had been browsing the site for info for a few months now. My only history with the black rifles up til now was shooting my friends' AR's. It was fun but it didnt really pique my interest very much, because in my opinion, I'll only have some real fun if it's my own. So I set out to build my own AR, I didnt want to buy one off the shelf because I felt it costs more to buy what I wanted outright than build it myself. And plus I didnt have the funds to pay for one outright, I decided to just piece it together and do it as funds came along. In total it has taken me about 4 weeks to get everything I have and assembled, I did all the work on it so I'm proud. Although I wouldnt necessarily say it's finished, as I would like to change the A2 grip to a Hogue, get a sling, and a free float rail system as well. But for now it's ready enough. I plan to take it out to the range this weekend to test functionality.
So my current build setup consists of the following... Spikes Tactical Lower Receiver Daniel Defense Upper Receiver Daniel Defense LPK and Trigger Magpul Winter Guard Adams Arms Mid-Length Gas Piston Kit BCM Bolt assembly BCM Gunfighter Charge Handle BHW 16" Barrel 1:8 twist 5.56 stainless LAR Grizzly Flash Hider Tapco Collapsible Stock Magpul Pmags And not yet installed, but Troy BUIS that are on their way to me. Here's some pictures of the build... http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7172/6409983779_557ce0c7e4_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7147/6485027887_aa25359383_z.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7032/6484950955_35c0a630fd_b.jpg http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7015/6484950949_d9f683b0ff_b.jpg |

Thanks, I appreciate the feedback. I went with the Tapco stock because at the time I was ordering I needed a few parts from the website and to save on shipping I went with the tapco that suited my needs at the time, in hindsight I would've gone with another stock but for now I think that will do. I'm not overly concerned with it for the time being, perhaps later on I'll upgrade or switch it around. I was looking at the Piston forum and saw the Samson piston rail setup and that has certainly caught my eye, so I am thinking about going with that one, particularly because I'd like to get the magpul forward grip that's angled, it looks to be comfortable so I'd like to consider that option. |

Looks good I like the spikes lower and the Adams piston system looks like you are a motor head by looking at the table Welcome and have fun Haha, yeah I've been around motors for quite some time now building and racing them, now that it's winter I've taken a break from the cars and moved onto the rifles, we'll see what happens when summer comes around lol. |

I didnt get a chance to take the rifle out this weekend, i was up too late last night and didnt wake up early enough to go to the range today lol. With hunting season here most of the hunters are at the rifle range in the day so I didnt want to go there since it'd be packed and missed my chance in the morning. Although I did buy 500 rounds of the XM193 ammunition from LC, so at least I'll be set for next weekend once my BUIS arrive.
What's the typical cost I should expect to buy ammo when trying to buy in bulk? I was able to get the 500 round box for $150 pre-tax so that came to .30/cents a round, boxed in American Eagle boxes, but the stamp on the brass is still NATO LC.. I've been trying to find ammo for less than .30/cents a piece, is that still doable these days? |

My Troy sights arrived yesterday so I put 'em on. I suppose now I'm ready to go zero. The weather out here has been in the 20's low 30's so it's been tough getting the motivation to go out and shoot even though I'm itchin' to see how the build shoots!
I havent taken any decent pictures of the rifle in detail, but here's another posing with my 9mm XDm http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7169/6523671119_4253f23025_z.jpg |

So I went out to the range today and I shot at 25 yards to test function on the rifle and attempt to zero my BUIS, but that's where I had my concern. When I received the package for my sights the info said to only adjust the rear sight for windage, but as I was shooting the target most all of my shots were landing about 2 inches left of my aim. So I figure I should adjust my sight to correct this no? Or could it be me that is making the error in aiming? I wanted to get some clarification on which i should do before I start adjusting the factory position. This is a dioptic Troy rear battlesight if that makes any difference.
This is how my target sheet looked like, ignore the ones on the upper right, those I was just dickin around lol http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7175/6528334575_ed72710778_z.jpg |
