| I have a Colt 6920 and I am wanting to put good optics on it. I will be wanting something for Coyote hunting and tactical sport shooting. I would like magnified power but not to much. Most of my hunting shots will probably be within 150 yards or closer. I was thinking about a ACOG but don't have any experience with them. I was also looking at the aimpoints but have no experience with them either. If you magnify the aimpoint does the crosshairs also get enlarged? If so I don't want that. I would also like something that is night vision compatible. I want a tactical style scope, not some giant long rifle scope. The ACOG more or less is what I am leaning towards, Since it is fixed power with it be a bad choice for closer shots? Is it quick target acquisition? |

The Aimpoint does not have cross hairs they have a dot. The dot will get bigger with magnification but so will the target. Lets say your aiming at a coke bottle and the dot covers the label. Now add a magnifier... both the dot and the bottle are larger, however the dot is still the same size in proportion to the target. The aimpoint will be quicker and they have nightvision compatible models. Go here for advice on best options for night vision set ups and advice Click me |
| Sounds like you've got a bigger budget than I did when I set up my rifle, but I'd have to give a thumbs up to the Optisan Mamba 1x4. It's got an etched glass reticle, and the "thickness" of the reticle doesn't change with magnification like on some budget scopes. It's got an illuminated circle/dot with non-illuminated crosshairs. It seems to be a true 1x on the lowest magnification, I have no trouble shooting with both eyes open running it as a red dot. Turrets have a BDC for 55gr 223, I haven't had any need to use it. I have it zeroed for 100yds, and on maximum magnification I'm the limiting factor at 200yds.The mount that came with it is great too. The combo only cost about $150. Personally for my eyes I could use a little more magnification for shooting 200+yds, but for a single optic it keeps me covered for the shooting I generally do. It's taken a few pretty hard whacks and it's never lost zero, or broken. The battery life is ok, but it will get dim if you leave it on for a couple of days, the turret cap has a spare battery holder though. Again, maybe this is way lower end than you're looking to go, but I've been very satisfied. |

the Vortex Viper 1-4 would be a good one for versatality. 150 yards will turn into a close shot for you after a few hrs behind the scope.
After shooting the Vortex Razor line of scopes 150 yards seems more like knife& stab range to me The Viper would give you lots of room to grow at a price under $500. |
