I am new to the boards here. I have been lurking for a while but just took delivery of my first personally owned AR and am new to the piston system. I have several years of experienced with DI ARs just never owned one. I ordered a POF 415 from Cabelas and it appears to have some of the older parts in it. The Gas block does not have the "N" and "S" labeled on it for the rotation between normal and supressed mode. Also the gas block appears to be shorter than what is shown in the manual.
The piston itself is also different as my piston has one "groove" on one end and two grooves on the other end each with different sized holes. The piston in the manual (dated 2009) shows the piston having only one grove on each end. My cam pin is also not the new rolling type but is the traditional one. My serial starts with 09- and I have the ambi controls. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this rifle appears to have older or different parts from what is in the manual and has anyone experienced this from POF? I will be calling them to attempt to get the parts that are shown in the manual as I am unsure how to reassemble the piston with no accurate pictures. I assume that one side is for normal and one side is for supressed or silenced |

Most likely, the smaller hole is for the suppressed mode.......so line up the bigger hole with the hole in the barrel for "normal"
My piston doesnt match my manual either, but I do have the "S" and "N" on my plug....the "N" is the bigger hole. Mine didnt come with the roller cam either, so I bought one ................My POF is by far my favorite AR though !! Go back a page or so (in this forum) to "POF 2500rd report" ............. pics of mine |

I just checked your pictures and yours looks like what is shown in the manual.
My gas block is a little shorter and has no holes it and also no "N"/"S". It looks like you have to pull the piston out to flip it over in order to change modes. The piston on yours has one grove on each end while mine has two on one side and one on the other. I will put up a pic of it tomorrow. I have not fired it yet but this is kind of irritating because I paid for a feature that I didn't get. |

Mine is the same as yours. My piston has two grooves on one side and one groove on the other, and no N/S labeling. POF makes small changes to the gas system from time to time, I've never seen a good explanation of why they do it.
Did you disassemble the piston system beyond removing the piston and rod? If not, then just drop the rod in first then the piston. For normal (non-suppressed) operation, the two-grooves side faces the front of the rifle. I'm not sure what you mean by "I paid for something I didn't get", did you pay a few extra bucks for the roller cam pin, and it didn't come with it? You can order the pin directly from them. I haven't heard yet of a new gun shipping with the roller cam pin, a buddy of mine got his back in September (AFTER I had ordered and installed my roller cam pin) new from POF directly and it didn't come with one. |

I was referring to the N/S selection without taking the weapon apart. I had purchased the rifle under the assumption that all of the rifles from POF come set up like the ones reviewed in recent magazines. I have already purchased the rolling cam pin. It should be on its way.
I suppose it doesn't matter all that much as I will probably never shoot the rifle suppressed but it is a matter of principle. |
