I just inherited a Colt Target Match with a 20in. barrel, I'm new to the forum and don't know too much about AR's but I was wondering if I can put a 14.5" barrel on it? Would that be illegal? I heard that you can only put those on Pre-ban rifles, is that true? Last question, how do I know if mine is a Pre-ban? Thanks for all your time!

over all length will have to be 16" unless you fill out the forms for a short barrel rifle.

the 14.5 will need some sort of muzzle device that will give it the total legal length.

The Ban is no longer in effect.

Rifles must have a total barrel length of 16" unless it is on a form 1 as a SBR (Short Barreled Rifle)
You can put a 14.5" barrel on it but the FS (flash suppressor) must be perm attached to the barrel. Most vendors will have 14.5" barrels with the FS perm attached.

Try Grant @ G & R Tactical or John @ Tactical Solutions both are +1 guys to do business with & are listed in the industry section of this web site
