Hello all,
I have been lurking around here for a few weeks and finally got an account set up to ask some questions... I made the decision to go ahead and build an AR the way I want it, with the parts I want :) I've got some connections at a local gun shop here in Vegas - they got me started with a cheapo Aero lower, RRA LPK and a Magpul CTR stock. Yesterday, I went ahead and ordered a Spike's upper. Now here's where I'm running into some difficulty - after hours of research, I've come to the conclusion that people like BCM BCG's. However, they seem kind of difficult to get right now seeing as they're sold out everywhere. For the sake of completing this rifle soon, are there any good alternatives? My buddy has an RRA BCG and hasn't had any issues with it... he recommended I pick one up. Before I do, I need some information on their manufacturing and testing processes... can anyone shed some light there? The next issue is the barrel - At first I was going to buy Stag's 16" M4 Carbine barrel for $250 but the more I talk to people and read up, the more I realize that it's a good idea to invest in a better one... I just can't find any in stock anywhere! Noveske, Rainier, BCM - all out!! So I am asking for a recommendation on a BCG within the $120 - $160 range and a barrel assembly in the $250 - $350 range. Is this do-able, and still result in a what you'd consider a good rifle? Any input is appreciated! Thanks, Max |

The only thing I don't like about RRA BCG is they don't stake their gas key screws quite enough.
I've re-staked some I've owned but some I got lazy and just shot them "as is" and never had an issue either way. PKFirearms has two RRA BCG on sale right now ...a standard M16 for 119.00 and their chromed semi auto for 130.00 .... the nice thing about the chromed ones are they are super easy to clean. PK also has a 16" Sabre Defense carbine barrel on sale for 325.00 (never used one but have heard they are awesome) or they also have a Daniel Defense 16" for 265.00 (this one I have used and it's really nice for the money). |

Okay awesome!! Thanks for the reply..
I think I will go ahead and grab that chromed RRA BCG. As for the barrel, the guy at the gun shop is supposed to call me tomorrow with some prices and availability on a few barrels but if he can't find me anything good, I may just order that DD assembly. Thanks again! |

Why not get a spikes BCG as well? AIM had them for $109, and you cant go wrong with one. I've got one and have had no problems in about 1500 rounds. Everything is mil-spec too. Hell, for $499. you can get a complete spikes upper w/BCG, charging handle, and their ST-2 buffer. It also comes with MOE handgaurds. I'mn ot a spikes fanboy or anything, broham |

AIM is sold out of the Spike's BCG :( I actually went with the RRA chromed BCG. Hope it works well! Trust me you'll be happy with it .. your going to love how easy they are to clean. I have one and they're really nice, I just spray with CLP wipe with rag ... done. Also if you do happen to have any problems RRA has great CS and is also an industry partner here. |
