Hi guys. I am relatively new to everything firearms related, been interested for a year or so. Anyway I was thinking about getting a new gun-and since I'm not in a hurry, I figured I might enjoy building my own AR 15. I just have a few questions:

1) What exactly would I all need? I haven't been able to find any kind of list or anything, I guess I know the basics but when I start looking at stuff I get confused.

2) I don't have any gunsmithing tools or experience, is this a problem?

3) I don't want to spend too much cash, but I want to have a quality product- best bet to build or buy? Also sites seem to have complete lower recievers much cheaper than the cost of stripped lower reciever+stock+lower parts kit. Why is this? just to allow for more customization?

4) Any reccommendations? Just any overall advice and also tips on parts to buy, which companies are good?

Anyway sorry for  my newbie questions but I'm sure I have more coming!

PS
Right now I have a 1939 m1/30 Ishvesk Mosin Nagant and a Remington Model 700 SPS in 30 06

No gunsmithing experience ... didn't stop me and there are 3 kinds of tools.  The ones you have,
the ones coming in the mail, and the ones on the list for the next Brownells order.
I started with a stripped lower and parts kit (DPMS) I bought at a gun show for
$99 for the lower and $40 for the parts kit.  And I paid $9.00 to get in the show.
Avoids FFL fees and hassles and probably breaks even compared with shipping.
A place called essential arms has good prices and has been mentioned here.

I guess it depends on your definition of fun, for me doing something like "building"
a gun is definitely my idea of fun, and since you are asking, it seems like it might
be yours too.  Plenty of information and advice and help here.

What I was told was that virtually any forged lower would be fine and to go
from there.

1) What exactly would I all need? I haven't been able to find any kind of list or anything, I guess I know the basics but when I start looking at stuff I get confused.   AR15 action block ,a good multi wrench ,roll pin punchesand/or a decent punch set, Hard rubber/plastic or brass mallet,  plenty more but those will get you started. You could make a pair of barrle jaws out of a piece of oak(drill 3/4-7/8 hole through center, cut block in half..)

2) I don't have any gunsmithing tools or experience, is this a problem? Nope , youll prolly be ok, nothing too complicated in building/assembling.

3) I don't want to spend too much cash, but I want to have a quality product- best bet to build or buy? Also sites seem to have complete lower recievers much cheaper than the cost of stripped lower reciever+stock+lower parts kit. Why is this? just to allow for more customization?     You could purchase a complete upper customized to your needs or build it yourself. I , as many others would as well, recommend building it youself , nothing better than getting the experience and the satisfaction of knowing YOU built this weapon. You can get quality either way,(building yourself or buying a complete upper) Del-ton is a good place to start for complete uppers/kits(stay away from the DPMS chrome and Ti BCG's)   I buy stripped lowers because i like to customize myself and i have come up with decnt prices and get exactly what i want , not that you couldnt buy one complete like you want it , i just prefer to build myself...

4) Any recommendations? Just any overall advice and also tips on parts to buy, which companies are good? Denny's/GTS , Rainier arms , PKfirearms , bravo company to name a few , basically any of the links at the top of the page is a great place to start , browse the EE as well..

You cant go wrong with LMT , CMT , BCM , Vltor , Magpul , Larue , Daniel Defense ,Troy & ARMS to name a few

Anyway sorry for  my newbie questions but I'm sure I have more coming!
No apologies needed my friend , were here to help.

Thanks for the responses! Well after thinking about it, building my own seems like a pretty cool project. There is a gun show in my area at the end of April, its a long time to wait here.
Thanks for the help!

It'll be easier&cheaper(sometimes) to pick up a lower at the show cause youll save on the transfer fee.

Or should I just start with the basics?
Just depends , this is your first build but once BRD sets in youll get many more, so starting basic isnt a bad idea, future upgrades are np

Also I was looking at pistol grips and some seem to run on the fairly expensive side while others are VERY cheap...What should I look for when it comes to that kinda thing, what grips have worked for yall?

Thanks for the help!
Np Sir !

1st, welcome to the site

second, read around, esp the tacked threads; use your 'search' feature

begin w/ this thread: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

1:to build: depends on how basic you want to begin w/...consult the thread above for an idea

2: not really; h/w, a little mechanical competence is required...go slow w/ any new work you havent ever seen or done

3: stick to ABCDRS brands; you can try kits from del-ton or J&TD, or check out the EE/industry board for delesr who sell AR stuff from all stages of completeness...

4:read, read, read some more; use your 'search' feature; go slow w/ the building...good luck
