Hello, I was hoping that you guys good help me pick out a Ar on a tight budget. I found a bushmaster .223 A1 M4 for $790.00 at local dealer. But when I look on line I see that S&W has one pretty close to the same price, but then I see DPMS and and so many others. I am very very heavy into my handguns and just want a AR to play with, and target shoot, so my $$$$ is on the lower side. Can you guys please help point me in the right direction? Thank You! |

Build your own!! Get a complete upper from Del-Ton (my favorite) or Model 1, etc. Buy a stripped lower and a lower parts kit. The only tools you need are a quality set of punches, hammer and screwdriver. Follow the instructions in the tacked thread for assembly. Work slowly and don't launch any parts into orbit. By doing this, you will save the excise tax on a complete firearm, and have the satisfaction that you built it yourself. If I were building a plinking rifle for the first time I would go with a Del-Ton 16" lightweight rifle kit. Sights are your call. With the kits you can substitute the parts you want or keep it plain. |

+1 for Delton... though be careful.... I was all about just getting one AR for as cheap as I could... then I got caught up in it... Delton was my first... and I love every bit of it! Needless to say I now have the upper to my third black rifle (in less than 4 months...) that should be here tomorrow... they keep getting more and more expensive too! ($2300 on this third one...) I stared out just like you... I'm a heavy Handgun competitior... just wanted an AR for fun... hahaha That didnt last long.... Now i'm getting into 3gun comp's... |
