I am in the process of transitioning out of the Marine Corps so this is a very slow and on a budget build but this is what I have so far...

Remove the stock before you put the bbl on.  Then you'll have an AR pistol.  Post pics in the AR pistol forum.  Then convert it to a rifle by putting the stock on.  Then if you ever want an AR pistol?  Take the stock off.

Nice build.  The National Guard is chock full of former Marines finishing out their 20.  Makes a nice boat payment when you turn 60.

Looks like your castle nut is on reversed. Also, you probably know not to charge and release the bolt without a barrel on the rifle.

UPDATE: only piece left is the UTG 13" FF super slim rail then it will be finished for now! Gas tube is in the mail. Here's pics of the mock up:

Go ahead and replace the extractor spring in the Ares BCG.  It's going to fail...

ETA: Love the receiver set color, and a good start...

Nice looking build so far. I've seen the rail you are looking for in the EE. Plenty of goodies there for reasonable prices.

If your looking for a handguard still, I just bought a Diamondhead Hand Guard with there proprietary barrel nut.  Installation was incredibly easy, the hand guard was well made and light.  The original hand guard I looked at was out of stock when I placed my "finish the F***ing build" order, so I chose Diamond head last second.  Pretty serendipitous occurrence.
