Hi, Wonderful forum with a lot of information which I appreciate. I am new to the AR scene and recently purchased a CMMG 14.5 upper with YHM flash hider. Pic below.

I would like to purchase a lower, but unsure whether to buy one complete or already made. Research concluded that most lowers are made by the same manufacturer and also price of stripped lower plus parts will come to be close to buying one already made. So really unsure on what to do, or what  to buy. Would appreciate recommendations.

Also would it be worth purchasing the expensive HK 30 round mag ?

Thanks

Lowers - I have 4 spikes and 1 doublestar and all went together without any problems, Also the latest spikes that I have purchased all  had the rear pivot pin hole tapped so you can install set screw.

On the Mags I have these from DSG Arms. Never had a problem, I also have P-mags
Mags

BTW Welcome

the HK mags are a joke.  a 20 yr old USGI mag with a magpul rebuild kit is better.  brownells, cproducts, NHMFG and all the other $15+/- mags will work just great if they're new or newly rebuilt, and the Pmags are awesome if they'll fit your lower and drop free consistently.

It's your first AR so go buy a complete lower. Get you up and running without the hassle. However, your next lower should be built.

I have a CMMG 14.7" upper. I have it mounted to a CMMG complete lower assembly. Looks nice. I wish it shot as well as it looks.

The H&K 30 rd mags are high guality mags, but very expensive and heavy. They have the best followers. I have 7 used ex-USMC H&K mags, I picked them up for $15 each. I like them. I have a bunch of the P-mags, Colt, C-products, Labelle, unbranded and even a Sanchez. The last three have Magpul followers installed.

I am assuming you are single shot so there is no point in getting more than a standard US GI mag. From personal experience Pmags, GI mags w/ Magpul followers or GI green followers, and CProducts mags are all GTG. Obviously a person should prove out any mag in the weapon it will be used in before trusting that mag.
