I used to have an account here in 1997 when I bought my first AR15. But it seems that after over 10 years of inactivity my old account is gone!
Anyway I sold my Colt Competition HBAR way back when and always regretted it... especially now after all this panic.. So here's why I'm back... I was at Cabelas the other day and i saw that they actually had some ARs.. so I asked the guy behind the counter and he handed me the last of 4..... Bushmasters. I know it's not the best AR... but i said what the hell...I haven't seen one in months and decided to buy it. Ended up paying $800 for it.. mehh... it's an ok weapon so far.. Amazingly they actually had 223 ammo so i bought 2 boxes of brass and about 10 of the steel crap... ( they didn't enforce the 10 box limit).. anyhow I took the gun to the range today and sure enough the russian crap was just that.. crap... and guess what.. the good stuff worked fine. but at $50 a box of 50 it was pricey.. so glad i bought the russian stuff after all. My first impression of the carbon 15 is that it's just ok.. the stock sucks really bad... it had some sharp edges that scraped me up pretty good on my shooting forearm.. so i filed it down to where it won't scratch me anymore...I'm not in any big hurry to upgrade but looks like magpul has some good furniture in my future.. The red dot scope is only good for about 50 yards... wonder how long that will last.. i think i'm going to put a scope of some sort on it.. any suggestions on a decent scope that won't break the bank.. i'm not as rich as I used to be! I also am going to need a new hand guard to mount a front iron sight mbus... looks cool and not too pricey... must co-witness. Also going to add a bipod or should i do a vertical grip? hope this is in the right forum! |

hey storm chaser.. did you notice my username? i'm a wx guy too..
anyway... i'm probably going to use this for coyote hunting and just having fun at the range.. not to serious about it.. i was just wondering what's out there these days that i should look into and what i should avoid. what do we think of nutnfancy here? he wasn't around last time i had an AR... As far as the stock I think a magpul ctr-m looks cool.. actually all the magpul stuff looks good. any suggestions on bad ass looking/functioning stuff? |

What are the distances of which you will be engaging said coyotes? Old eyes or young eyes? |

No degree...Well I've got the AF degree.. Plenty of universities will take my credits... I've been writing and supervising TAFs for Air Force bases for 15 years so i've got the forecasting thing down....
Engaging them from as close as possible.. but i'm guessing around 100yards. Old eyes.. I'm 42. I wear glasses mostly, but when I do cool stuff... i wear my contacts... guns count as cool stuff! |

Old eyes here as well... When I hunt coyotes Im in an old pickup truck kind of on a hill looking over 80 acres. Many of my shots are beyond 100 meters and out to about 200 meters. I dont skimp on optics. I use an $800 scope on my AR, a Leupold MRT. But for on the cheap for me if I was on a limited budget... for scope with magnification http://www.midwayusa.com/Product/582858/leupold-mark-ar-rifle-scope-15-4x-20mm-duplex-matte plus a mount, I like Larue mounts... Or an Aimpoint Pro for a red dot. http://www.skdtac.com/Aimpoint-PRO-Patrol-Rifle-Optic-p/aim.310.htm Those are on the cheap. Dont skimp on optics, you get what you pay for. Those I posted are the bottom of the barrel for me anyways. If you want to skimp on optics there are knock offs on ebay and the like.... You get what you pay for. |

I would put 1000rds min. down range before buying lots of stuff. I've had excellent luck with Weaver and the mid price range Bushnell scopes Also don't under estimate the red dot optics . I've hit tin cans at the berm 220yards using a 4MOA dot Only reason I have a FVG ? = because I use it along with a surefire light. other than that I wouldnt have one. good luck |

tl:dr IB4TM You guys should get a room. Get an Acog or Elcan
Hes on a budget as stated. Maybe reading would have helped? Nope. Irons or ACOG. Maybe I should add the internet forum disclaimer for you. The post above is 100% my opinion and may not reflect anything based in reality. |
