Hello I have been reading these boards for about a week now and you all seem like a good group on knowledgable people. I recently just starting shooting again after about 15 years since my military service. When I seen the assult ban lifted, I went out and bought an A2 bushmaster. I probally would have went for a flat top had I read here some before purchasing, but mine has a carry handle. So with me being new to this after a while, my question is for a beginner, what sort of sights should I look at. I read a post today about the Hakko Military Police AR-15/M16 4X21 , and it comes in pretty cheap. I also found TA44-2, but at a little over 800 dollars. I have yet to find a TA31 in stock anywhere. But since I am so new, should I plunk down the big dollars, or should I go with the cheaper scope and develop some skills first? Bob |

Welcome aboard! I would suggest that you go big, right-outa'-da-box...if you start cheap you'll keep craving the "good-stuff" until you've satisfied that hunger...and it's hard to get your money's worth on the old stuff while you are upgrading...so it's cheaper in the long-run just to get the best from the beginning...(at least that's what I tell MY wife). |

Bob, Aimpoints are available by the score over on the EE board. The aimpoint is a non-magnified combat red dot optic. They are very robust and very reliable. They are however designed to aid in close quarters work so you can keep both eyes open. I have also found them to be quite an asset to increase hits at up to 300 yards. Beyond that, they are ineffective in my opinion. The Trijicons you mentioned on the other hand are magnified and you will have more precise longer range results. So if 0-100 yards is your thing, the Aimpoint is a fantastic sight. After that, you may want to consider the Trijicon. In any event................DO NOT BUY CHEAP OPTICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You will live to regret the purchace. In optics, you truely do get what you pay for. Regards, Gary |
