Please pardon the "green" questions, I have been having some trouble finding some answers and am in need of advice... First, I am very interrested in purchasing an AR-15 from bushmaster. Can I purchase a complete rifle from thier web site and have it shipped to my residence (in california), or does it have to go to a dealer before I can pick it up? I need some clarification on how that works. I don't really understand the whole "FFL required" deal. Secondly, I wish to get a 20in. A2 model, and will primarily be using it for plinking and target shooting, so accuracy is of concern. I am debating between buying their DCM model ($1495) -or- the "base" model ($995) and upgrading specific parts later. Really, I am mostly concerned with having a heavy barrel and a good trigger. Which option is more cost efficient? I am hoping for at least MOA accuracy. Thanks in advance! |

I do not believe that Bushmaster sells complete rifles from their website, though they do sell other products directly to consumers. There are companies that will sell to you directly, two are listed below. But the rifle will still have to be shipped to an FFL, not to you directly. "FFL required" means ya must have a local (near ya in Idaho) Gun Shop receive your weapon. They will (for a fee) provide ya w/ signed copy of their FFL License, which you in turn send along w/ your payment for the AR to the seller. He sends the AR to the Gun Shop, which places the AR in his FFL inventory books, then transfers ownership of the rifle to your via FFL form 4473, (typical yellow form for firearm purchase). That's how it works, or ya can buy a AR direct from a local Gun Shop, gunshow dealer (by filling out 4473) or it is possible to buy a firearm via "private" sale in which no paperwork is done, (check the Firearm laws in Idaho to make sure this is legal there). FWIW, suspect gunshow or private sale will get ya a cheaper price than buying direct, (which ya can do). Mike |

Quoted: Unless I'm missing something, it looks as if you can order a rifle from thier website directly with a credit card.. Yes, it does appear to allow that. However, it is a violation of Federal Law. The only way to buy a gun and have it shipped directly to your home is through the CMP organization. Everything else has to run through a Federal Firearms Licensee Kalifonia won't allow you to own a AR-15. |
