Hey fellow AR-15 enthusiasts, I'm a first time owner and currently in the process of building my first gun!  I'm quite sure I've got the mechanics down to assemble the thing with out a problem, I have a few questions that for what ever reason the answers seem elusive to me.  So here I am to seek out the professionals.

I have bought a complete CMMG lower.  While I'm sure the buffer tube is the .mil diameter, I can't seem to find any info to back up that claim.  So is it .mil spec?
Here is the lower I bought: http://www.cmmginc.com/product_p/55ca360.htm

Also, I have bought a nickel boron BCG, its from WMD guns, and according to them, has all the standard .mil specs.  Does anyone have an experience with this company?  Are the reputable?  And how does a nickel baron BCG perform compared to a standard BCG?

And lastly, concerning red dot sights, it seem that every picture of every gun I look at has a tubular style sight?  How come?  Why don't people use red dot sights of the open variety? Such as this one http://www.truglo.com/IW_Products.m4p.pvx?;MULTI_ITEM_SUBMIT

PS, I'm not sure how to make the links hot, and thanks for the answers!

CMMG uses only Mil Spec tubes

WMD guns Are fine. Good quality, they are good guys.

Reflex style red dots tend to be mounted too low for AR use, are too fragile, and not really made by quality companies.
