I just purchased a new Bushmaster ORC. ( I know that there is nothing special about it, I just couldn't pass up the price.)

Since the gas block is already milled down can I put a midength or even a rifle length handguard on it?

Also does anybody have anny reccomendations for a halfway decent Red Dot sight? I dont have the cash to pony up for a Eotech. And I really do not need anything fancy.

I think you are being ignored.........

No the longer (stock) handguards will not work, but it would be possible to free float the barrel and have the tube cover the gas block giving you a larger handguard area, more rail space etc.

but if you can't afford an Eotech then you can't afford the free float system plus gunsmithing to install it.

On the ORC I would just put a good scope on it.

dont know about the stock. but for the reddot i love the Aimpoints. the military has around 500k in their inventories, a lot more than any other weapon sight. go for the new M3 or newer M4 their batteries last for ever. ive had an M2 on my AR for over 5 years and it still has the battery that came with it, still as bright as the day i bought it.

Just free float it.

Dunno how much a gunsmith would charge to do it. It isn't hard to do yourself but you need tools, vise and bench which is an investment. If you don't plan on working on more then I would just pay someone to do it.
