I'm located in California and I'm interested in getting a CA legal AR-15 style rifle. From my limited research all the mill spec rifle (entry level) rifles seem pretty similar. I've looked at Stag, Rock River and Spike Tactical. Do you have an opinion of which of these brands (or any other) you prefer and if so why. Any insight would be appreciated.

+1 for NDS
My favorite non-retro lowers are the Spike's. Nicely done, and well-finished. I think the ARFCOM group buy for $100 each is still going on too. I don't know if you can get those in Kalifornia, though. Frickin' commies. Probably better off posting this sort of thing in the Build It Yourself forum, though. On this forum, everyone is likely to say, "NDS is Best!" |

In my opinion, all non-retro lowers from major manufacturers are pretty much the same.
Bushmaster, DPMS, Smith & Wesson, ArmaLite, Spikes Tactical Anvil Arms, Noveske all have about the same quality of workmanship. The parts fit and function fine in all as well. I have all the above, in addition to my NDS, and the NDS looks much better! I'm still looking for ANY lower that has the same quality of workmanship as NDS. I don't want to buy one, just want to see one. I'm not answering from a retro aspect, but from a what's best aspect. They just happen to be retro styled. |

Thanks Check out the "Bullet Button." Apparently it allows you to build an AR with almost all of the "evil" features intact. http://www.riflegear.com/p-193-bullet-button-bullet-tool-combo.aspx (Wish I'd known about this when I still lived in Kali...) |
