I am new to AR's and want to buy a reasonablely priced AR in the .223.  Any suggestions?  Have looked at Bushmaster.

I'm sure most people here (myself included) will suggest pretty much anything by Bushmaster, Rock River, Armalite, or DPMS as the best deals (price/quality ratio) in ARs. Colt makes good rifles, but they are somewhat overpriced (comparing Colt vs anything else is a favorite hobby of many here).

I have a Bushmaster (plain 20", fixed carry handle), and couldn't be happier with it. BM also makes really fine carbines, removable carry handle models, and 24" varminters. Can't go wrong with BM, and they are priced reasonable.

Rock River Arms makes rifles that are basically equal to BM in quality, and they are well priced. Can't go wrong with those either, same goes for Armalite.

I own a DPMS CAR 16" and love it.  I know that Bushmaster, Rock River and Colt make good AR's.
My suggestion is to buy a good quality "name brand" and find your best deal and you won't be disappointed.
Go to the DPMS website and take a look.  Most everone here is going to recommend Bushmaster.
Nothing wrong with that.

Please allow me to offer this important piece of advice. Whatever brand you decide on (BM) do yourself the favor and get the A3 flat-top w/removable carry handle version. It won't take you long to start craving optics. Get proficient with your iron sights first, then start thinking about optics (and you will).
Learn from my mistake, because now I gotta send off my upper for the A3 swap. Quickly, you'll be ready for a second rifle you will.

Having just purchased my first AR I would advise you to carefully check all the stats on what you buy.  I believe that the lower priced Armalites (Eagle Arms???) do not have chrome-lined barrels nor do most of the Rock River Arms.  Bushmasters do and I don't know about the others.

Take your time, do a LOT of research, ask questions here, decide exactly what features you want and then start shopping.

Welcome to the site! [beer]

If you're thinking about getting into AR's, prepare to spend a lot of time on this board and a lot of money on your new addiction. Before you know it you'll be wanting to get a 1911, a .308 AR, etc...

I personally own a Bushaster and have never had a problem with it. Do some research before you decide and shop around on the site's "Industry" board for prices. You can get some great deals here!

What part of Tx are you in?

I'm fairly sure you meant your question to be directed at dep4532, since I am living a bit north of Texas.

No 1911s? Shame on you!  [nono]

Nothing wrong with Glock, I own one myself. There's just something about the 1911...

I live right outside of Kerrville.
