Hi all, I have been lurking a while and finally wanted to ask a few things.

I am about to order an Armalite  semi auto M4 carbine. Flat top receiver w/ carrying handle + sights, collapsible stock, 16" barrel  and a match grade trigger job done by the factory. I have not seen a ton of posts regarding Armalites but my local gunsmith, whom I have known and dealt with for 10+ years swears thay are the "best of breed" right now. My other choice was a bushmaster in the same config but I think I am gonna get the Armalite. I am looking at about $1200 for the total package, I may get a better deal thru the net but I give him my business always and he always works on my guns, I dont wanna buy something that he will have to fix later when I didnt get it from him. I get free FFL transfers from him as well.

I am looking for a carbine that is a good , dependable shooter, mainly for target shooting but also to be part of my own home defense collection ( Sig 226, Mossburg 590A1 and the M4)

My question are this:
1) Who has had experience with Armalites? Can you share them, good or bad?
2) I am not getting a rail system now but will add one soon, what are the best options?
3) Since I am ordering from the factory, is there anything else that is a "no brainer" that I should get on the rifle? ( the trigger job is a $100 upgrade and the parts cost more then that if my gunsmith does it)

Thanks in advance and safe shooting in the new year to all.

I would not spend $100 on that trigger upgrade.  For a defensive carbine, stick with the stock trigger.  If you want a long range SPR type rig, then go with a 2 stage trigger and a $1k scope.

As for "best of breed", Colt is top dog.  Armalite is a good second.

The Armalite is as good as any and better than most; good choice. My experience with Armalites is all good.

The Match trigger is a good option for an accurate rifle.

Armalite has rails.
