Going to build my first AR and had a dumb question. I am looking at a 18" barrel and sometimes during my search I find an 18" SPR barrel. Is this a different barrel than a traditional 18" barrel?

There are no "Traditional" 18" barrels, 14.5", 16" and 20" are the traditional lengths.
Many 18" barrels you run into are going to be SPR profile.
That is just to say that they are 0.840" diameter under the handguards.
HBAR's are 0.875" under the handguards and Govt profiles taper from 0.675" in front of the chamber to 0.625" before they step up to 0.75" for the gas block.
Lots more info to be found in my profiles pages.
