Hi everyone and this is a great sight. I finally registered after all these years because I finally got the itch and bought an AR15. It is made by DPMS and it is a 16" Carbine. I know that many of you out there do not prefer this particular brand but all I know is that it shoots very well with no hiccups at all. In the picture is also my Colt Combat Commander that I customized and it has a stainless frame on it. As you can see by my nic, I specialize in 45's. I used to be a gunsmith and my forte' was the 45. The other pics are the rest of my gun collection that is growing so fast!

Thank you. I agree with you, 1911's cannot be beat just like the AR15 platform. Everyone in one way or another are constantly trying to make copies of both.

The AK47 you see in the picture is a homebuilt. Built that one from a kit.

You say that you used to Gunsmith.  What made you stop?  I've been thinking about quitting my job and going to the school in Trinidad Colorado. Life is to short to work in IT

Just curious...where did you get the kit for the AK, what brand parts, and if you don't mind me asking...how much?  Thanks.  Nice collection by the way!

Thanks Everyone!! The answer to the Gunsmith thing is....being a Gunsmith at the time was a part time hobby that I enjoyed. It does not pay well in the long run because of the tedious and laborious time one puts into any gun he or she works on. I used to hand checker the front strap on 45's and only charged customers $80 to do it, does one realize the time involved in doing a quality job to do such a thing? I built many IPSC guns for folks up north in my old days of 45's and after looking at the price of the gun, parts and labor involved, I was lucky to get a $200.00 profit in doing this. I never charged my customers at the time an overly or out of sight price for my work. I did have many good returns by doing this. Now the AK Homebuilt question....$99.00 for the Romanian kit off of Gunbroker last year and another $89.00 for the receiver from ArmoryUSA out of Tx. Then of course ya gotta buy the essential Made In USA parts like Trigger Group, pistol grip, gas rod, etc. to make it all legal to own and shoot according to BATF Rules. Hope what I typed was helpful to those that asked the questions. By the way, good luck in the Gunsmith thing but remember one thing, it will not make ya rich by no means because it is a labor of love in doing something ya care about!

Here is a picture of my next build and it is based on a Kimber Gold Match slide with all the internals that came with it. I picked that ups for $250.00. The frame is the one I used in my Combat Commander slide. As one can see, there is a 9 port comp that will be screwed onto the barrel and a Weigand style scope base that I will be mounting on the frame after I do some custom work on the frame. I will be hand checkering the front strap of the frame and I do have many hand checkered hammer spring housings already from my previous years of being a Gunsmith. This gun will be made for Bullseye and IPSC style matches and finally I can say that I have once more accumulated my own dream gun.
