I have decided to build my first AR15 instead of buying one so I  know exactly how to take it apart and if something goes wrong I can fix it myself. I have decided to purchase a kit from Coleman and Tyler with eveything but a stripped reciever (A3 with chrome barrel setup). For the receiver I am going to go with a Bushmaster Carbon lower or the DPMS since they are so resonably priced at 97.20 at the same place. If I decide to go with the carbon are there any drawbacks to them or any lower will work? Any feedback on my setup, opinions. etc? Thanks in advance.........

Personaly, I'd say good call on 1) Building your own. You can make it exactly as you wish + it's chaeper money wise while still maintaining quality.
2) Coleman Tyler are great to deal with. I'm glad their local for me

Regarding the Carbon lower I'll say this. I have NO personal experience with them. That said, you can pickup the Stag or Double Star lowers for under a $100.00 from several places listed here and elsewhere. I personaly prefer a forged lower for no difference in cost. BTW...welcome to Arfcom and BRD.

Not trying to start a debate or anything but I'd stay away from a Carbon lower.

I've never personally owned one, but a buddy that I shoot with has and had multiple problems.

That being said, there are probably hundreds of guys on this site who own the carbon lowers and will swear that they are 100% reliable.

Since this is your first and only AR....go with a standard lower. just my .02

The carbon lowers were designed for lightweight setups. If that is not important to you, then just get a forged lower. They don't weigh too much more anyways.

I was just looking at the new bushy carbon receiver (upper and lower) at a local gunstore, as I was considering a carbon lower for a build a few months back and was curious what they looked like.  I was not overly impressed, I'm sure the carbon has weight and possibly stregenth advantages, but the plastic look doesn't really appeal to me.  I'm happy I went with a traditional bushy.

also if you go with a carbon lower you will probably want a carbon upper to match, the color is very different.
