I just got my AR today and I field-stripped it as per the instructions. I'm reassembling it and the rear take-down pin is stuck... Am I just not doing something right?
I tried to search, but to no avail...
Thanks for helping the AR newbie.

Does it have a ball / detent of any kind. What brand? Got pics?

Dumb suggestion but have you tried wiggling/pushing the upper further back onto the lower when trying to slide the pin in?  Does the pin go in and out with the upper off the lower?

I believe so.

Yeah I have. And no it doesn't. I've tried pushing on it as hard as I thought was safe and it doesn't budge. It will come out a little bit more but it won't go in anymore.

I would pull the end plate off and remove the spring and detent and make sure there isn't some issue with them .. while you have it out lightly run a piece of 600 sandpaper over the end of the detent to smoothl the tip a little could just a bur on the end of the detent or something. I had one do that to me .. took it out lightly smoothed the pointed end and was fine after that.

Thanks for the advice. Might have to do that.

I solved it for now, a little CLP and a light tap with rubber mallet works wonders.

I might have to do a little amateur gunsmithing soon though, just to make sure I don't have any other problems.  Thanks for the help and advice guys, this is why I love this site!

Smack it with a hammer.  Seriously, sometimes when new there's just enough "newness" to keep it from sliding in easily.  A dozen times in and out will smooth it up.

Make sure the hammer is cocked and the safety is on and the bolt and carrier are fully seated (probably are or you couldn't close the upper).

Sometimes they just need a little "tough love".

Well whoever she was... she was right, because it worked like a charm.
