Hi guys! I am faced with a bit of a delima. I am weighing options for my next build/purchase. Basically it comes down to this. I have two new RRA lower receivers put back that I am thinking of building on. I am leaning towards a midlength RRA setup (with colt bolt carrier of course). I was thinking maybe an ACOG or Eotech and D.D. or Troy Industries free float forearm. Another option is to buy a Colt 6920 and put an ACOG or Eotech, which also would include a D.D. or Troy Industries Free Float forearm on it. Which of these two setups would you suggest and why? Please note that I am not concerned with resale value as I very rarely ever sell or trade any of my firearms. I am entirely concerned with reliability, durability and accuracy. |
| I am a large fan of building something the way you want it. However, without knowing what you currently have, and what you are looking to do with the upcoming weapons, I can't really lean much one way or the other. The 6920 is still a very nice carbine, so its sounding like a win-win deal so far. |

Stickman: Thank you for your response. I have a couple of setups presently. I have a complete Busmaster M4 with Aimpoint and Midwest Industries Quad-Rail. I have another plain jane set up that has a Colt complete upper on BM lower. There is just something appealing about plain jane rifle that I can't explain. I also have an FFA Class-3 full sized A2. I just cannot decide on something for my next build. On the one hand I have a hankering for that Colt 6920 but I also like midlength setups, which is something that I don't already have and I do already have some receivers on hand. Of course the receivers aren't eating anything either so if I decide on the Colt then they will still be there for a rainy day. For the record I am very AR experienced. I have had Bushmasters, Colts, and Armalites and other close family members have RRA. I have found all of these models to be superb quality and I think any of them would make a great rifle for any use. The Colt MIGHT have a slightly quality advantage. Actually I tend to think of Armalite as a close runner up also, although often overlooked. |
I agree, and I have a couple retro AR15s just do I can't play around with altering them. My 20" rifle is pretty straight forward as well, I attribute part of that to carrying a stock M16 for a number of years. If you are looking for another stock weapon, I would go with the 6920, then leave it stock. If you are looking to start getting creative, hit up the RRA lowers and go to town. |
