MK6 -MK6 vs ATACR F1? F1 For my money Id be looking at Kahles and Vortex to be honest with you. ETA: EuroOptics is legit, I got my Kahles from him. |

Where to purchase, I cannot advise. On the worth it front, what is your intended use? 1000 yard match shooting, then yes, worth every penny. Range plinking or arm-chair commando, not a chance. Light hunting, as in nothing really serious, no dangerous game, daylight to dark big game, then IMO doubtful. I've gotten along with my Leupolds just fine for over 47 years hunting deer 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour past sunset and never had a problem. I have even started using some cheap Weaver Kaspa scopes with excellent results on .458 SOCOMs and SOCOM Wildcats. I'm really impressed with these cheapo Chinese optics. I would not trust them, yet, for serious big game hunting or serious use but they are working just fine on my range toys.
FYI, before Nightforce came on the scene, Leupold MK 4 dominated 1000 yard .50 BMG shooting, but most use Nightforce now, or did the last I checked a year ago. A Leupold VXIII 8.5-25x has been working just fine on my AR-50 that I got the first year the AR-50 came out. I got it before anyone ever heard of Nightforce but if doing today, I would get a NF for the .50. IMO though, unless you are going to do some serious shooting or one of those guys who has to have the most expensive rig at the range, NF really are not that much better and worth the extra bucks FOR THE CASUAL shooter. |

Does NF stuff ever go on sale more than 10%-ish? The scope I'm eyeing is $1500...can I expect it to ever be around $1200 around holidays etc or is that more likely a used market price? If it does, I missed it. Even 10% off I havent seen a lot of. There are limited distributors and they all advertise about the same price. That's why someone mentioned to call and talk to someone who can maybe work with you. Those NF's keep up there their value. Even in the EE they're not marked down considerably. Now I know every now and then Optics Planets will have a 20% off coupon for their store, and you can try and see if that will work, but I'm not sure what those may or may not be goof for. |
