Are there any free-float options other than tactical rails? I would like ro free float a 20" A2 and a rail isn't really practical for my purposes. I really just want something more in-line with standard handguards.

This and the Magpul MOE rifle length guards are the only thing I can think of that comes near what you are asking.

ETA: Ignore my post. I read the question wrong.

Most other options will be tube based.

Houge makes a nice basic tube free float setup. Edit to add that I'm refering to the overmold as it's the only one I've used.

If you want the A2 handguards but free floated, try to find a DCM style handguard:

Here Look fr $15 off of $100 COUPONS.

DCMs will be the most incognito. There's quite a few plain free float tubes availible, some verr affordable. If you just don't want quad rails look at modular forearms, MI, Troy, JP, Daniel Defense, and just about everyone else are turning them out today, far more ergonomic than quad rails, still have the option to mount a light or whatever if the situation warrants.

Lot of tube style floaters around now.

This Apex is the lightest I have used, and the gator grip pattern is easy to grip without being a cheese grater.

This YHM Todd Jarret floater is very affordable and light.

I see the early style plain tubes on the used market for pennies on the dollar.
