Thanks for all the responses to all of my noob questions.. Here's another..

Just got my Colt 6920-- going to start stocking up on ammo..  So a few questions come to mind:

5.56 v .223 --barrel is chambered 5.56 so I was intending to go that route?
Initially I would like to get 1k rounds. What ratio of range vs defense/SHTF  do you recommend? Ultimate goal?

Thanks again

I'm sure someone with more experience will come along, but I've noticed my different guns like different ammo, so I'd suggest testing various ammo first before a major purchase.

Can't help with ratio.

Buy M193 by the case. As much as you can afford. M855 as well, see how your rifle does with it. Stock up on that.

Read the self defense tacked thread up there at the top of the page. Try a box or two of as many of those loads as you can find to see which your rifle likes.

The ratio is up to you. I feel comfortable with a couple hundred rounds of FBIT3 loaded in mags for HD and the rest mostly 193 and 855.

If the barrel is chambered in 5.56 you can safely shoot either 5.56 or .223 in it, or should I say through it, but not necessarily true the other way around

A barrel chambered in .223 should only shoot .223 .
