I would like a folding front sight for an upper I have.  As of now the upper has a gas-block on it already.  My question is, do I simply get a folding front sight?  Or should I switch out the entire gas block to one with an integrated folding front sight?

I'm stuck between the following two:

OR

I realize this is a personal preference question, but I'm mainly curious about the gas-block sight.  I have MOE handguards on the rifle right now and would like to keep them, will the MOE handguards work with the gas-block sight?

If you want to keep your MOE handguards then you will need the gas block/sight combo. Otherwise you will need a FF rail over a low pro gas block to use the MI type flip up.

If your current gas block is not a railed version then the first type of sight won't work and besides you have the rail height version pictured and that version is for only mounting on a HG with a top rail.

The second type is a clamp on version and they are OK but personally I don't like my sights, slings or lights mounted with a clamp on type GB, fine for a low pro under the rail but not for mount things onto...but again that's just my personal view of it.

ETA..What kind of site/GB do you have now?

Oh yeah... thanks for asking that.  I forgot to mention that my current gas block is railed.  And that is a generic pic of the folding front sight, I know I need to get a gas-block height front sight if I want to go that route.

I would probably leave the gas block alone and just get the folding sight, MI or Troy are both very good quality.

I wouldn't replace the GB unless that's REALLY what you want, if you don't align it correctly it can cause issues and your not having any issues with it now so I'd leave it alone.

If the GB is pinned I would do the clamp on sight.
If not then I have gone both ways. I think I prefer the one piece unit, maybe because it has a bayonet lug and POs liberals.

Thanks for the insight folks.  I ended up ordering the Midwest Industries floding gas-block sight.  I figured I've never uninstalled/installed a gas block so why mess up one that's already good to go.  Maybe my next build I try messing with the gas block myself.  Now I just need to figure out what optic I'm going to put on it...
