I have been thinking about the 6.5 Grendel, but I have zero experience in conversions. I currently have a mil spec High Standard M4. Obviously I'd like to buy a complete Grendel rifle, but it doesn't look like the budget fairy will be cooperative any time soon.

It appears to me from other posts on ARFCOM that all I would have to do is buy a barrel, bolt and magazine. This doesn't seem right to me with my limited understanding, so I just want to clarify a couple of points.

Will my existing carrier work with the Grendel bolt?

If the barrel I buy does not come with a gas block (and the one's I've seen have do not), will I have to buy one or is there some way to make mine work? I assume there are gas blocks for barrels without A2 sights, right?

Anything I'm missing? Any downside to doing this?
