A few years ago I did a trigger job on a Remington 700. The screws had a hardened compound on them externally that had to be removed to adjust them. Does any one know what this compound is?  I have some screws I would like to lock in place in this manner.

Was it Loctite?

Go to http://www.loctite.com/int_henkel/loctite_us/binarydata/pdf/lt3461.pdf

That should help if you want to apply or remove something with Loctite.

Could be "hot" glue.

This is what appeared to be on a new Model 70 that I just adjusted for my son.

Good Luck!

CLEAR NAIL POLISH, use clear nail polish on all screws, especially scope ring screws, just place around the screw head and recess
