I got my CMMG conversion yesterday and it says I need a rounded hammer.

How un reliable are these with notched hammers? Both my Armalite and Daniels Defense hammers are notched, but my two stage trigger in my SPR's lower has a rounded hammer.

I want to go to the range tomorrow to try out the conversion but I dont want to waste my time, only to have it not work at all with the notched hammer. Is there a way to check if my hammer will work by dry firing? I can see the hammer hit the pin.

Anyone know who sells a rounded hammer?

When I ordered my CMMG conversion kit, I also bought a rounded hammer off te EE to go with it. I know DPMS sells rounded hammers. (That's what mine is.)

My conversion works in two different AR's both with notched hammers. Try it first to see if you have any problems.

UPDATE:

It worked fawlessy with my armalite notched hammer. Atleast  200 rounds today and not a singe issue.

One thing that I found odd was I was using remington "thonderbolts" .22 and 50% of them sounded like I had a suppressor, and they were a little pop and not a crack. But the conversion loved the winchester I was using. Fired flawlessly with me pulling the trigger as fast I could.

I was amazed at how enjoyable it was. Shooting the .22 conversion at metal plates from 25 yards was much funner then shooting 5.56 at paper!

Now I need more mags, is there a reason why people like those black ones more then the CMMG mags? CSA has the CMMG mags for $15 a piece.

Sometimes the notched hammers work, sometimes they don't. Easier to recommend a rounded hammer that is known to work.

+1

What he says...

I have several lowers I can use with a .22 conversion. The ones with the DPMS style rounded hammers always work 100%.  Others have mixed luck with different hammers. Its always safe to go with the known good part.

Your mileage may vary.

I just bought 2 rounded hammers, as I am having some problems w/ my uppers(Both have several thousand through them). I wanna see if the rounded hammers make a difference.

I will say I had two dedicated .22 uppers and one conversion from an un named manufacturer that the rounded hammers made no difference in performance. Still had the same issues of FTE's.

I have rounded hammers in my .22 and 9mm.  No problems yet.

Better to be safe than sorry, right?

My Stainless CMMG works with both of my notched hammer Colts.
Hit the range, you may be presently surprised.

Some do; some don't. My CMMG conversion bolt would work with notched hammers but my Tactical Solutions dedicated upper would not.
