Finally was able to bring my Recce Basic to the range to put it thru its paces.  The charging handle seemed like it was binding a little bit and it got more than normal amount of wear on it (yes it was lubed) but I figured it would break in, it did and is now slick and smooth in operation (Joel @ Noveske already offered to replace the handle if I wanted).

I took three batches of ammo to try out to see what it liked.

- Prvi 75gr OTM
- Prvi M193
- Hornady 75gr TAP FPD

All the ammo functioned perfectly and I had no failures of any sort.  First at bat was the M193 which I bought a bunch of to use for training, unfortunately it did not seem to group well for me, the best I could get with it was a 2" group @ 50yds.  I was pretty disappointed at that and decided to move to the Prvi 75gr OTM.  The Recce really liked this stuff, my best 5 shot group was a ragged hole measuring .352 with one flyer that I blame on a fly that landed on my arm.  Gotta get me more of this stuff.

On to the Hornady 75gr TAP FPD.  This stuff was pretty good, best group measured .411, at $20/box it is pretty expensive stuff to run thru the reliability cycle I require for any ammo I use for 2-legged defense.

Granted I'm comparing Match ammo to surplus quality ammo but I expected better from the M193, am I being unrealistic?  This makes me wonder if the 1/7 twist of the barrel was too much for the M193?  I've heard people say that Noveske barrels are 1/7.7 twist, can anyone verify?  Also, does anyone have a link to any info on how the Prvi 75gr OTM performs in Ballistic Gelatin?

I had my kids out with me so I'm sure I was a little distracted, I plan on going again tomorrow by myself to see if I can do better with the M193, but all in all a day at the range with the family beats most days!

The barrel twist is 1/7 (should be on your barrel).  I had the same problem with 62gr. Privi through my 14.5" Noveske.... it shoots Black Hills Blue Box 55gr. very nicely and then I tried the Privi....... it shot like crap, pretty much the same results as yours.  I was blown away by this..... gonna make up some 77gr. loads that should shoot real nice through the Noveske barrel.  Glad to hear the results with the 75gr. Privi though

Its difficult to shoot those one hole groups unless you reload or have Fed. Match ammo 69 -77 gr. Ammo just will not produce what you would like or expect in a quality rifle. I tried to explain this to a friend and he didnt believe me until I loaded his rifle with some 77 gr. sierra match reloads and he immediately shot all touching shots over and over again and had trouble believing how good he was shooting.

What year/month was your Privi 75 gr?

I was getting 3-4 MOA at 100 yards with Priv 75 GR OTM with an 18" SPR contour barrel by compass lake.  It was real ugly, not much better than M-193. I thought I had maybe not tightened down my barrel nut enough... but after buying a box of overpriced Federal Gold Medal 77 gr SMK from the range, I was getting .5 MOA at 100 yards, so that ruled out rifle issues.  My friend's Remington 700 that was putting hand loads into the same hole also exhibited the same problems with PPU 75 grain.  The date on my ammo was January, 2009.

+1

When I tested it it was no good either out of my then Noveske Afghan. Glad to hear your Recce liked it though as I've got one now but haven't gotten to shoot it yet.

I'm not sure how to read their date code but the numbers on the slip if paper in the box are:

0806 (or if upside down 9080)
