Folks, I've got a Bushmaster ORC with the low profile receiver, and naturally, I want to make changes. Being a relative noob, I need some advice:
The mission is hunting out to 400 yards and punching paper out to 600 yards. With higher velocity and accuracy as the goals, mainly I'm looking for a free floated longer barrel, lightweight as possible. I'm thinking 18"-20" Stainless barrel, pencil or fluted, lightweight guard, mid length gas system. The questions are as follows: Who makes a barrel as described for a decent price? Same question on the hand guard, only need a picitanny rail on the bottom. Besides a new gas block, what else do I need? Do I need to send the BCG to the place I get the barrel from for head spacing (whatever that is)? Is there a barrel retailer that will sell the necessary parts and assemble everything on my upper? You may be able to get a decent fluted barrel from Dpms that would already be head spaced to your bolt. There are some light weight hadgaurds that will fit the lower receiver height. Troy has trx version for this receiver as does jp makes a VTAC handgaurd and Apex machine has one too. Some good options out there.
Whoever you have install the handgaurd can also put the barrel on at the same time. |
