I'm Filling out the form to register my lower as a pistol. Is has the phase 5 hex2 tube on it but I already but the sig brace on and it was tight so I don't want to take it off to measure. How long is my pistol going to be with the phase 5 buffer and an 11.5" upper?
Thanks all for the help |

Michigan requires registration of all handguns but not rifles. Buzzkill... Well, I measured a pistol with an mk18 10.3" (not including fh) upper on a lower with a regular phase 5 buffer tube, which is the same length as the hex tube (7 3/8), and it came out to roughly 24 5/8". With the 11.5 barrel, you might be just over/under 26". Hard to say exactly. Its cutting it close though. Good luck brotha! |

What's the length of the phase 5 buffer? Anyone know or know were to look? I will order a 11.5 upper when I find one and do all the measurements before I file the confiscation, I mean registration card Their website says the overall length is 7 3/8". Linky. Its a nice looking setup. I wish you the best with your build |

Thanks. For some reason I couldn't find it the first time only the length of pull. Cool now I'll measure from the end of barrel to the from of the reciever tube and add the two up The total length of the buffer tube is not the length it will add beyond the receiver, though. Standard pistol tubes may vary a touch, but should be about 6 3/4" or less. Can tell you that two different 10.5" barreled pistols, one with standard carbine buffer, one with standard pistol buffer were both right at 24.6" to end of actual barrel. So your 11.5" barreled one should be just under 26", but mighty close. - OS |

When I had my PSA buffer tube (copy of phase5) with a 11.5" BCM upper it was 26.5" long not counting the FH. I really don't see how, seems at minimum a half inch longer than it should be. Surely that buffer tube is not longer than a carbine tube. Perhaps there are lowers that vary that much, though, certainly don't know that for sure. - OS |

Why not get a 10.5" upper and perm attach the FH? A lot easier to find 10.5" uppers than 11.5". With an A2 FH on my 10.5" upper and a pistol buffer tube, the OAL on my pistol is 26.5". He said he preferred to keep it under 26" so could carry/transport under handgun rules there in MI. - OS |
| I want an 11.5" barrel for ballistics sake. I feel like it's the 18" of the pistol world. Oal doesn't really matter so much to me. It's over 26, yay I slap on a vfg, under 26, cool I got a truck gun. Regardless I need a small handy firearms for the home/cabin/property used for personal defense. |

Hopefully I'm under so I can conceal carry in the car but won't be too bummed if not. - OS |

If Its under 26" I can cc in the car loaded since I have a cpl. If its over, I don't need to register it as a pistol since it is now a firearm, but can't carry in the car loaded. That is exactly as I understood the law up there these days, thanks. Just thought you really preferred one to carry in vehicle, so didn't get why you also didn't seem to care either way how length turned out is all. - OS |
